I've got the Fat PS3 CECHA01 system that was released way back (before a slim version was even mentioned), one with the backwards compatibility. I hadn't used it for a while before the PSN hack occurred, and a short while after I finally got a copy of Mortal Kombat 9.
Here's where the issue comes in. Whether I leave it idle or I'm playing, the game will freeze on me every few hours (four at most, since I don't play games five hours straight...lately). I haven't tried any other game yet, so I don't know if me getting the game post PSN shutdown means I missed out on an important update or if my console is going bad (for no apparent reason). I'll be trying another game shortly.
I vaccuum my console's vents (power off, game disk out) weekly (only missing out last week) and of course keep it on a nice hard wood countertop with well over several inches of space on all sides of it. The only part of the PS3 I was able to clean internally however was the Hardrive area since that damn security screw needs a special screw driver I don't have as of yet >: /
Aside from maybe an update issue: I checked my PS3 for heating problems and there doesn't seem to be any. One part of the system does get very hot, right under the major air intake part, but it's been that way since I first got it years ago.
The top is cool to the touch even after being on for quite some time, and though the bottom heats up a fair bit it's not to an alarming degree.
I've tried going into safe mode and restoring the file system, more than once, and each time it says the hard disk is corrupted or something but it seems to fix the issue and start up as usual.
With so many good games coming up I really want to make sure my system isn't going nuts on me.
Is it heating (costly D
, an update issue (just wait out the PSN thing, then I guess), or something more? I'd appreciate any tech help I can get!
Oh! And it started up two days ago I believe and has happened three times now.
