Well.... To get back onto the main topic of good local/online games I suggest warhawk if you and your "friends" like dogfighting or running around with a machine gun hoping the auto-aim wont decide to like the other person better then I recommend you give it a shot.
A good game to wait for would be Killzone 2. If what Jumplion said is true, " I believe Killzone 2 have splitscreen multiplayer (with Killzone 2 supporting bots)." Then that should pretty much solve all Ps3 friend worries unless your on opposite teams and either one of you begins to cry.
