So, when my PS3 YLOD, I sent my HDD to Geeksquad at Bestbuy to get it backed up for $100. But they sent it back, gave us a refund and told us this in the paper file:

HDD is not readable. Does not get a drive letter, and shows as unformatted in Acronis. Rec DRD.da

Could someone explain the Acronis, and Rec DRD.da?

And if anyone knows any good places I could possibly have a better chance of a back up in New York State, US.

Sounds like they didn't have a clue what they were doing. Yellow light is almost always a soddering issue which has nothing to do with the HDD. It's an issue with the processor. Actually a heating issue, more caused by heat than an overheating issue.

But that's Geek Squad for you.

Here's a video I used to fix my PS3.

Edit: Oh hey, just realized you're just wanting back-up and not fix. Still, they don't have a clue in my opinion.

Acronis is a commercial data back-up tool. That result means your HDD got messed up when the PS3 shutdown. It may be possible to get the data through linux, however.

Acronis is a commercially available drive backup utility.

Sounds like your MBR is FUBAR, ergo no drive letter.

No idea what Rec DRD.da means.

This Program: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk Might help you out if you can manage to get your HDD hooked up to a computer. Run Testdisk on it to recover ALL files and dump them onto a backup HDD.
