I encountered a problem recently. The contents of my hard drive got corrupted and the system had to restore itself. The problem I'm facing now is that it's asking me to install firmware 3.56 from a portable media storage device. I followed the instructions and tried to install the firmware from 3 different USB sticks and a PSP. No luck. Didn't read 2 of the sticks and the 1 it did read, it just said "data is corrupted". Same with PSP.

This doesn't seem like a major problem, the console itself seems to function properly and I think the problem is on my. Any suggestions?

Redownload the firmware update, and remember that the usb has to be FAT32.

What's that exactly?
What part of it?
I'm going to guess you mean the FAT32 part?
It's a filing system format you can have on your hard drives. And you will need to format your USB stick to fat32. But it sounds like you already have one that is, and the problem is the firmware that needs redowloading.

I'm not sure I follow. Yes, I was talking about the fat32 part. I redownloaded the firmware several times and tried it from multiple USB sticks and a PSP like I said. Every time it just says the data is corrupted.

Then it sounds like your PS3 needs Sony tech support.

I was kind of hoping that would be a last resort, but doesn't look like I have much of choice. At any rate, thanks for the help.
