PS3 Help?

Hello Escapist. Recently I've been downloading some demos over PSN, but I've now realised that I'm using up way too much memory on my Harddrive. The source of the problem comes from all the music I store on there, but I don't want to just delete everything off there. Is it possible to store all your music on a USB stick and access your playlists (etc.) it without it being stored on the PS3?

yes you can store it on a usb key or an external drive

tho this is always a better and easier solution

it's pretty easy to update the drive, tho you need an external one to back everything up. with a back up the whole process takes about 4 hours at the most

No it doesn't!

I've upgraded mine and I have 'Continuous Play' and I believe It says in the small print it doesn't.

Also, look at the recent Escapist Video on ps3 hard-drives, they say it doesn't.

I have a 300gb hard-drive in my PS3

I do delete the demos afterwards, I was just saying that's where the early space warnings popped up. Thanks for your help though guys!

Yes, just copy it over to the USB stick. If you haven't created a file structure in the USB drive that the PS3 recognizes, it's fine, you simply hover over the 'icon' of your detachable (In the music section), and hit triangle, show all, it should bring up a list of all the data listed on there (This also works for pictures/movies). Playlists...not sure, the problem with playlists being located on external drives is the fact that externals swap drive letters quite regularly, and so the playlist might not always be correct. It's worth a try though.

My former love did this and upgraded his memory. He still has a first gen ps3 with the bc that I want. I can get one if I can save up an additional $300 or so which will excite me to do. And yes, I plan on upgrading my hard drive in it so I can store a shitload of games and such on mine.

Yes, you can store music on USB's and play them straight off of it, its generally how i play music/watch videos through ps3. Xbox can as well.

However, using an external hard drive formated (NTFS) for some reason won't recognise, needs to be formatted fat32, or fat or something else to be recognised.

I just connect an EXHDD to my PS3 with a USB cable, dead easy, just flick the switch and all my music and videos are a brief navigation menu away.

You could always upgrade the internal HDD, but you will lose all your data if you don't back it up.

yeah it tells you how to do it in the manual for the PS3

Sony was rather cool about that and it gives the PS3 a bit longer life, i put a 300 gig drive in mine
