Well my friend is far too lazy to make an account for here so I'm stuck doing his dirty work, apparently while he was updating his PS3 with the latest software update the percent bar was stuck at 0%, and then the screen went black, and since then he has had a "black screen of death" as he calls it. He has already tried fiddling with the cords and looking up solutions online, to no avail, so he was wondering if any of the people here might know of any solutions, so if you have any possible solutions please let me know, thanks.

The system turns on right? Good.

So what you should have him do is press the power button at the front and hold it in until he hears two beeps I think it is. This resets the PS3 screen output settings to SD quality.

I have had similar problems before and it has always been fixed when I did the soft system reset.

Hope this works

I thank you for what seems like a very promising response, but I got a text from him during the night saying, and I quote "Nvm I fixed my ps3 using my powers of unfathomable magic" but I will keep this page in mind if it happens to anyone I know again, so thanks!

Hehe Well good for him, because I remember the first time this happened to me, I thought I would be without my PS3 for a very long time :p

But the holding power button in trick should always be your go to solution.
