Hi folks, I was wondering about this problem I have with this minigame in the original Mass Effect, recently released on the PSN.

Now, before I explain my problem, I'd like to point out that I'm not new to Mass Effect. I've played the original X360 version through and through, but I've always been a PS3 guy, so I just had to complete my trilogy at long last.

Thing is, I just can't beat the decryption minigame. In the X360 version of the game, I didn't fail it not once. On the PS3, however, I rarely make it past the first button press. I got past it once or twice, but then I immediately failed afterwards.

Has anyone else had this problem? It just seems a bit too unforgiving to me. Possibly a bug? All I know is, I really don't have enough omni-gel to keep playing like this much longer.

I'm having this same issue with the disc version released with the Trilogy box set on PS3. Initially, I had unlocked a few doors successfully, but now traveling the galaxy I can barely get past the first button press as you described.

I'm thinking it's a bug, because at times I'm sure I'm doing it properly and it consistently fails

Hi to All. Just started yesterday and had the same issue.
Thought it was a bug but actually that is how it works. You need to be extremely (and I mean EXTREMELY) quick with the buttons.
I managed to get through 4-5 of the locks now (thanks to earlier heavy training with Mortal Kombat combos), but I do have to save the game every time before I attempt an unlock, just in case.
Requires full concentration, don't think, don't blink, just react.
So I think as a fault in the program it will not be fixed, but some of the developers might grow a bit more heart and patch it up with a more patient version. (But I think the gaming community pretty much used up their good will with the whining about the ME3 ending.)

That's odd, I thought it was just me. I've finished Mass Effect 5 times on 360 myself and just downloaded for PS3. I thought the mini game was more difficult but just assumed it was me! I even dumped every available point for Tali into decryption from the beginning. I didn't start making mistakes until about an hour into the game.

On another note, I have subtitles on and the voices are completely out of sync.

Then why in the world is the X360 version so much easier? It makes no sense to make PS3 players go through more trouble than others.

I don't think the decryption skill affects the difficulty of the mini-game, just the level of the locks you can attempt to open. And I've pretty much sworn off ME until they patch this bugger up, so I haven't noticed any sync issues.

Hi. I think I may have a solution. I just started this game (downloaded from psn) because I've heard how amazing it is, and I was THEEEEEESSS close to saying EFFIT!!! because of that whole instantaneous failure when trying to decrypt what should be the easiest decryption of all time... Pretty sure it's a HDTV settings thing.. I have a Sony Bravia and had it set to the Game setting, and failed instantly... I changed the setting to Graphics, and ... got one RIGHT!!!! then failed instantly... so, I changed it to the General tv setting and knocked it out of the proverbial park.. Hope it helps.

Whoever let this trash pass QA should be fired. Completely sucks the fun right out of the game.

I see you defeated Ultra Mega Death Kill Murder Crime Boss and have decryption 2 points away from maxed out. Too bad you couldn't get into that hardened wall safe the first time, so screw you.

Yes, I've turned on game mode and tried every other suggestion. You shouldn't have to go to such length to bypass crap game design.
