Anyone who didn't already know this either never saw a PS3 or should be hit over the head with one. And I do lug mine around. It barely fits in my backpack and ow my spine.

I think that the title should remain with the XBOX as the ps3 looks awesome and the original xbox looks like a giant turd.

I would have thought the Atari 5200 would be heavier, seeing as it has a door.
If not the Atari 5200, then the Calecovision or Intellevision. All 3 of those were pretty beefy consoles. My guess is that Famitsu is only counting mainstream consoles though, as all 3 of those were also very unknown consoles.

Did the Xbox 360 measurement include the power supply?
why would it if its just measuring the console? its not measuring everything you get in the box.

... And here I was, thinking "Hey, maybe those guys who make these gaming researches finally found out who of those two consoles have the best popularity in the majority of things."

... T'was to my dissapointment, than, to see that those researchers only put the LATEST consoles on a weight-test.
Please don't be that damned literate about things! Goddamnit!
You're doing it terribly wroooooooooooooong!

Last time i checked consoles did not run on hope, prayers and good intentions. Rather they use a power supply which on the 360 is outside the actual console. So it should be weighed as part of console.

I'm calling bullshit on this.
Do they even know how many game consoles there are?
Way more then anyone can keep record of, that's for sure.

So I'm willing to bet that there is a heavier one out there.
I've owned most of them. (I topped out at 38 consoles.) And while the Vectrex was kind of weighty, it ain't got nothin' on the launch PS3. That said, the brick for the 360 practically has its own gravitational pull, it's so heavy.

All Hail the Fatties! AT least I get a good workout dragging my PS3 and its metal carrying case over to my friend's place to play Borderlands every weekend (He has a killer TV ;-) )

I disagree...

I'm fairly sure that the Sega Genesis, with all of the addons is heavier then the PS3.

What with the CD Addon, and the 32 bit addon, it was a BEAST

Yeah, the team who created the 360 cheated a little on size & weight by making the power supply external. The rest of the consoles have it inside, it is required to run the console, and you still have to find space for it. If you removed the power supply from the original PS3 I imagine it wouldn't be that much heavier (if at all) than the 360, and the same if you put the power supply back in the 360 instead.

The only time weight matters is if you're moving it somewhere. If you move it (and want to play it in its new location), you have to bring with it everything required to play. So I think an apples-to-apples comparison would compare total weight of everything required to play each console: cords, power supply, console, one controller, etc. Controller weight should also be listed separately so that a comparison can be made between moving consoles with multiple controllers.

I wonder how much the Gold Wii weighed.

Gold is freaking heavy...
And highly conductive of heat as well as fragile. So i doubt it's more then a thin foil over the regular plastic.

Also, why the fuck did they ignore the pc again?

I call BS on this. Even if you disqualify the Neo Geo for being an arcade machine (although there was a consumer version) and note that the 5200 weighs about half of a PS3 and even claim that add-ons don't count, that doesn't help.

The Vectrex weighs 20 lbs.
