I believe I got something similar, but to me it appeared to just be one of those chain mails that claim you will have to pay for something free unless you send the message to x number of people.

Where did it come from, so far Sony's said nothing to those effects, ever. They've never even said they were thinking about it. Sounds like a scam to get your credit card details, they pop up on PSN every now and again, or just a dumb chain letter thing.
Ihavent heard anything but i havent played my PS3 since last night so i dont know. Even so thats about annother year so im not worring too too much. And even so the'll probably better the experience somhow. The best way would to allow free online but also allow for a payed verion which adds alot of improvments. Of course that has alot of holes in it but it could work with refinment.

As an aside, I won a PS3, one of the first gen ones with the PS2 chip. Every single PS3 owner I know now hates me, because it's gathering dust, while they're forced to go back to last gen to play their old games.

It's just a chain letter, I would suggest the following course of action, delete message, locate the person who sent you the message. Go to his house, don't forget your gun. I think the final step should be easy to figure out.

Well anyway, I did remember talking about this with some of my friends, one of the greater "what ifs" of the day. Frankly I think it would be a terrible idea, pure and simple. It is one of major things that as a PS3 owner I can claim. That at least I never have to a pay a fee to play online.
