Ok, So I am downloading 4 PS3 arcade games and I have to go to bed soon and I have school in the morning, so should I leave it on all night and on during school or will that screw it up?

Go right ahead. It shouldn't do anything. The coolant fan shouldn't have a problem keeping it cool, especially since it will be Idle.

It should probably be ok, I know someone who kept it one for 4 days straight and it was fine.

I still have no idea why though.

Unlike the 360, the PS3 doesn't have any cooling problems (I'm almost positive), so you should be in the clear.

Downloading data takes hardly any computing power. You won't even be using a GPU. No chance it will overheat unless you disconnect or block the fan, and even then probably not.

Might as well.
If it has no negative reuslts, then there's no worry.
if it yields negative results, you'll probably make a thread about it in which you should get plenty of replies (Not quite kind replies, but replies all the same).

I see no downside, so go for it!

I have to disagree - My friends melted after he left it on for 12 hours

Make sure you dont have anything boxing your PS3 in... dont set stuff on it either. With plenty of breathing room it should be just fine. I've had mine on for 2 days before... turned on accidentally before i left for a trip.

really? I've left mine on for much longer than that, and nothing happened. Was it in a sun-room during the summer or something? haha.

set the downloads going then go to turn off the ps3. it'l give you the option to automatically turn off the system when downloads are complete.

No, although having just spoken to him, I think it was the disk laser that messed up and burnt the disk, resulting in the whole back of the console melting

He got a better one free anyway

If your PS3 is well ventilated then leaving it on all night won't do a thing to it (I've done so many times both on purpose and accidentally) However if it is not you probably would have experienced some problems by now. Seriously though you're fine and its not going to cause a house fire ^_^

Left it on to patch Metal Gear Online over night, no problems whatsoever. In fact I've left it on overnight many times. I have the 80GB version from April 2009.
