So the latest update of firmware for the PS3 is ready to brick our consoles and while its not normally news worthy unless my cat catches fire there is an interesting addition in the features.

3D stereoscopic games are now supported. At the time of the system software release, there are no 3D stereoscopic games available for the PlayStation 3 system. The release of 3D stereoscopic games will be announced at a later date. If the TV in use supports 3D stereoscopic display, the screen from which you can set the TV size will be displayed when adjusting the video output settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the settings.
Holy cow 3D gaming!, 3DTV's aren't on the market yet but that never stopped Sony before.

Also in future with this update you'll be able to Remote Play if you have a Sony VAIO range of PC's or laptops kicking about but only at the end of the year.

Its odd to note that this firmware has been released so quickly after the Linux debacle, especially since the prime selling points for getting the update aren't features you can actually use till the end of the year.

In other words, didn't update last time to kill Linux? well suck it!.

EDIT: Four currently, two more to come.

Samsung has four 3D TVs on the market right now. How are there none?

Why do you need to have a Sony laptop for that to work?

It has to be a Sony VAIO, which if you say its just a PC within earshot of a Sony rep they will politely tell you its sufficiently different to not be described as a PC.

I'm not kidding, a Sony rep once "corrected" my assessment of their PC range ... sorry VAIO range. Kinda like how Apple lock down their hardware Sony's stuff is proprietary, UMD's instead of Discs, ATRAC3 instead of MP3.

The Marketing blurb is Sony, hence rivals will not be mentioned, you could say I'm Sony's ***** and spreading their lies for them!

After all the talk about how the PS3 "does everything" this is one of those rare times where they are actually using practical foresight to give the system a real competetive edge.

That made me think, you know how having surround sound or a really good pair of headphones gives you a slight competitive edge in online gaming, will having a 3DTV give you a slight edge too? You know localising enemies quickly.
