So, trophies. I found this http://ps3trophies.co.uk/retail.php and I must say, it made me very happy. I always thought the PS3 needed an acheivement-like system, they are sure to increase gameplay length and give us a great sense of acheivement. I'd like to know what my fellow escapists think.
Also, when do the trophies come in to action? Does anyone know when they are available? Through an update? Or something you have to get from PS store? Maybe they are already a part of the newer games when you buy them? Share what you've heard or know.
Thanks everyone.

The problem is that Trophies is that, unlike Xbox Achievements, they are not compulsorily included with each game. This strikes me as somewhat silly, cheapening what's already an afterthought. Hopefully they'll catch on, as Achievements can really add some longevity.

Having a PS3, I must say, I never saw the point in the xBox 360s achievement system. And I don't see the point in the PS3s. I mean people were perfectly happy with the PS2/xBox online (I assume, I never used it). Then all of a sudden there is this big craze about getting Gamerscore. When it doesn't merit anything or contribute to anything, I mean fair enough if it could be traded in to the online shops, to either buy things or cheapen them at least.

I love achievements personally. They sometimes offer unique challenges that I wouldn't consider doing otherwise. Like in Half Life 2 (not sure the episode or the name) where there is achievements for not using your regular gun in certain levels. I never would have thought of doing that on my own. I'd just spray and pray and miss out on alot of fun.

I wonder where they got the idea? They're not trying to copy Microsoft, are they?

I never said they weren't. I said acheivement-like system referring to the 360. Nothing wrong with copying something that works.

It was sarcasm. I was surprised, because Achievements are the one thing MS has that works.

Sony is actually looking at giving actual stuff for Trophies. Who knows what kind of stuff, but they say prizes and such are in line of the highest Trophy winners. My imagination runs wild with the idea of multiple Gold and Platinum Trophy winners. Free games? Early Beta entry for new games? Tee-Shirts, hats, stickers, DS3 controllers, the possibilities are endless. If Sony pulls this off right it will kick ass!

And Microsoft will start doing it too. Then it will be a competition for who gives away the most and better stuff for Trophies/Achievements. Which will only kick more ass for us, the gamers! w00t!!!!

where have you been for the last 5 months?

I like the achievements on the 360. I haven't gotten a single trophy for PS3 yet, there don't seem to be any games with them.

right and the fact that m$ forces trophies into the game is a good thing? especially since the trophies do absolutely nothing

i mean if the trophies doing something, then it would be ok forcing them, by not forcing them you aren't pressuring developers to do something they probly don't really care about

I have become a trophy whore. It's great fun, I've gotten Platinum on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and am steadily working towards Platinum on Burnout: Paradise.

Yes, I am wasting my time. But it is fun.

I'd still try to attain them even if there was no reward, but free Sony swag you say? Mmmm... it merely sweetens the deal!

Yes, I think it is a good thing. Way I see it, if Trophies/Achievements are going to exist at all they might as well be implementedly consistently.

not really forcing it on to developers will just increase development time and bugs in the game as well, which further increases costs

also forcing them onto games will also cause the developers to not put a lot of thought into the trophies, if you don't force them, then the developer can put some thought into what trophies to give out

i'm kinda upset that they didn't allow the backwards compatibility with trophies, have to play thru the game again to get them

also you can add gta iv to the trophy list as well

You have no idea how pissed I was when I found out they weren't retroactive. I spent a freakin' week completeing most of the cars part and getting 100% on the bikes! What can I say? I wanted to be prepared for any trophy in the game.

Trophy whoring is harder than it looks, trust me. Though I still havn't gotten a Platinum trophy, but Uncharted is the clostest one I have. Just need to find all the treasures.
