I need help. I have an old 20 Gb PS3. I was playing Battlefield 2 and it crashed. I restarted the system and the system no longer seems to detect game disks. I put in PS2 and PS3 game disks but nothing happened. When I put a disk in however, the blue disk light does come on. I don't know exactly what is going on nor how to fix it. Do any of you know? I haven't tried reformatting the system. I am not sure how that could help, but I haven't done it for fear of loosing downloaded files. Please help.

Does the PS3 Interface still work outside of the game? If so, then my guess is that your laser is either dirty or broken.

Yes it does. If it is the laser what do I do?

You could send it in for repairs, or if all else fails, get a new one.

How's the warranty on it?

Well, you could remove the shell and carefully cotton swab the laser if it's dirty. But, if it isn't reading at all, it's most likely broken. You could send it off to Sony, but if it's not under warranty, you'll have to pay them for a new laser.
