Is there anyway to make a PS3 wireless capable? I want to get my PSN up and running but I have no immediate means to get a cable from my PS3 to my modem without buying my GF a wireless card.
WRONG.D_987 said:You'll need to buy a wireless adapter.
Correct.Laughing Man said:Uh the PS3 is natively wireless, you shouldn;t have to buy anything to get it to work. The downside is that the PS3 wireless receiver is.... um... well how can I put this nicely.... a tad shit.
I have a PS3 sat next to my PC the PC wireless receiver is right next to the PC and gets a constant 70% signal. The PS3 signal on the other hand goes from as low as 10% to as high as 50%. It is frankly crap.
The thing is you need to set the PS3 network connection to wireless and then let it set up automatically. Honestly if you can't put a cable from your AP to your PS3 you're gonna be better off buying a set of network plugs that plus in to your mains sockets and then using them to connect your PS3. That's what I use and they work very nicely.
Nowt wrong with the router, I didn't say it was right next to the computer, why would I use wireless if it was right next to the router? The PC and PS3 is up stairs in my 'entertainment room' the router is downstairs right next to the phone socket.Correct.
Although I wonder if the receiver is shit if your computer is right next to your router, and getting only 70%. Looks like the router is shit, if anything.
But, I digress. It's built right in, don't be tricked into buy anything unless it doesn't work well enough for you (As mentioned above by Laughing Man)
Mines the opposite, mine has to go through 2 walls and although I don't know how to check the strength, I very rarely get lag.Laughing Man said:Uh the PS3 is natively wireless, you shouldn;t have to buy anything to get it to work. Well then maybe your house is causing interference, that happened to my friend with his wireless network. For a while he had it on the north side of his house and it worked like poop, but when is older sister moved out and he switched rooms to hers on the east side it was golden.Laughing Man said:Nowt wrong with the router, I didn't say it was right next to the computer, why would I use wireless if it was right next to the router? I presumed he had the new 40 GB version which does not have wireless installed.Baby Tea said:WRONG.D_987 said:You'll need to buy a wireless adapter.
I was going to buy a PS3, decided not to and got a 360, but I remember reading that the 40GB version would not have wireless. Does it?shadow skill said:Since when did the 40gb not have wireless?
I stand corrected. My bad.D_987 said:I presumed he had the new 40 GB version which does not have wireless installed.Baby Tea said:WRONG.D_987 said:You'll need to buy a wireless adapter.
It does. I think it's the Xbox that doesn't have wireless. (mine anyway)D_987 said:I was going to buy a PS3, decided not to and got a 360, but I remember reading that the 40GB version would not have wireless. Does it?shadow skill said:Since when did the 40gb not have wireless?

EDIT: I've looked around (and by that I mean searched in Google) and the only PS3 that doesn't have wireless is the 20gig.
