PS3 worth buying for GTA V?

So I've been thinking recently: I want to play GTA V but don't have an xbox or ps3.

Here's a question for those that have played it:

Is GTA V good enough that it'd be worth buying a PS3 for it? (Well, I'd be buying it for GTA V, but would probably buy other games as well, such as last of us)


Also, does anyone know where about in the UK would be the best place to buy it? Or what HDD size I'd need at the least?

There's a GTA V bundle that would serve your needs pretty well.

If you do go for a PS3, pick up InFamous and InFamous 2 as well. Also Last of Us and Uncharted Trilogy (all three games, one package, cheaper). If you dig Ratchet & Clank, their PS3 games were mostly good as well, but skip All 4 One.

Oh yeah, I saw that bundle, but was hoping to pay less money for it.

But from the look of Game it would actually be better to buy the bundle.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 itself was like £139.99 (or not far off) with a new GTA V copy setting me back £45. That's for a 120gb used system as well.

Whereas the GTA V bundle is £200 and is a 500gb brand new system with GTA V included.

I think I still need to look, but unlikely to buy it at the minute.

I'd say yes, if only because the PS3 has some other spectacular exclusives. Don't get me wrong, GTAV was really good, game of the year for me, but I would never recommend anybody to buy a console just because of one game. Luckily for you, the PS3 has some of the best exclusives in the business, with Last of Us, Uncharted, Killzone, Yakuza and Heavy Rain all top quality titles that deserve your attention.

The online part of the game is what is making me want it so much. It does look awesome.

In that case I say, it's worth the money. I'm having a lot of fun with it and they did a good job of making it accessable to everyone. You can play autoaim or freeaim or swich back and forth. You can play with random maniacs or just with your friends or both or switch around. And while you got the ps3, I also recommend (and I see I'm not the only one) Valkyria Chronicles. It's definitely one of the most interesting games to come out this gen. It's a weird mix of strategy, shooter, & JRPG and it actually works as a fun game. I think you can try a free demo on psn.

Where exactly do the controls leave much to be desired, if you don't mind my asking? Didn't have any trouble playing through the game with it's controlscheme, so I'm interested in what you found to be faulty with it.

Well I found the shooting controls to feel pretty wonky, even after upgrading the weapons. I never used guns except for the sections where the game would trap you somewhere and you'd have to shoot your way out, but every time I had to use guns, lining up my shots was far more difficult for me than in other third person shooters. I've heard the argument that the shooting was supposed to feel awkward because you aren't supposed to be good with guns, but if that's the case, it just feels like a poor design choice, to me. Regardless of the justification, it still killed my enjoyment of the game, whenever I had to use a gun.

My other issue was just movement in general. It wasn't as bad as the shooting controls and I did get used to it eventually, but movement just didn't feel tight. I don't really know what was wrong with it but comparing it to other third person action games, like Dark Souls or even later Metal Gear Solid games, and it just didn't feel as responsive.

Really, both of these issues seem to be reoccurring issues Naughty Dog has. The Uncharted controls felt the same way to me

I've just seen both systems load the game, and that's how long it took, consistently. 10 seconds is hyperbole.

If it's hyperbole, it's very slight. And considering I used an approximating qualifier (as opposed to your specifics which were just flat out wrong), that's not even a strike against the statement.

I wasn't any more specific than you. You said "like 10 seconds" and I said "about a twelfth". That's how long it's taken every time I've seen it, whether on my PS3, or on my bro and two friend's 360s. It's not flat out wrong; it's just how long it's taken. You're the only person I've seen say it takes anywhere near that short of a time. Good for you, I guess. I'm done.

To be honest, as a PC gamer with little time to play games, I wouldn't get a console for a single game. In fact, the only reason I own a PS3 now, is because some guy didn't want his PS3 anymore, and my brother already had one, so he gave it to me. It's been a great gift so far, considering I've always had an interest in quite a few of their exclusives, like the God of War and Uncharted trilogies, The Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption, which never came to PC. That's 8 games right there.

Also, after playing a little bit of Bioshock Infinite on the PS3, I've changed my mind a bit on FPS on consoles. Not as good as aiming with a mouse, to be sure, but not terrible either. I'm even considering that Killzone thing now.

Anyway, I bought GTA V for it. Played for 1 or 2 hours, seemed fun (keep in mind the last GTA game I played was GTA III years ago), didn't notice any overly long load times or framerate issues, but then I realised GTA games tend to be too time consuming and I decided to save it for later.

Edit: Also, here's the thing about console graphics: for years I've heard and read a lot of things about how PCs are better and yes, they are better, but honestly? The graphics on the PS3 and way, way, waaaaaaaay better than what I had in mind, considering all the shit consoles get.

This is really nothing new when it comes to complaints about consoles. A good chunk of the complaints come from a world where anything not running the best hardware and playing games on ultra is unplayable trash. That's not to say consoles are superior hardware-they're not-but the complaints are exaggerated to the point they seem like histrionics.

If you have friends to play it with then yes. Personally I haven't even finished the story mode yet because online is much better, as long as you have a solid group of friends to play with. Or just wait until they port it.
