PS3s and monitors

I have an HP w2207 monitor and will soon be getting a PS3. Now my question is simple: Is it possible to hook these two up with HDMI? Will it work or does the PS3 require a TV? And another question related to the monitor: It's speakers are pure crap so how do you connect extra sound system onto it?

The basic idea I can think of is, your monitor is basically a Tv without a tuner so it should work

It's not rocket science. The monitor has DVI with HDCP compatibility, so a HDMI-DVI adapter lets you plug the PS3 in. Sound goes from the PS3 to your sound system either through the optical jack (digital) or regular AV cable (analog).
