I am enjoying watching Microsoft fall so short of their closest competition. Finally get to see them at least a little fucked over for all the fucking over of us they do. They can backpedal and they can spin, but assholes will be fucked eventually.
Seriously? We're still not over the irrational hatred of a thing they wanted to do then changed back? To say Microsoft is falling short in this... well, it's rather silly don't you think? We're looking at one European country not the entire world. It should also be noted that Europe has been skewed towards Sony when it comes to consoles for a long time. If Microsoft is falling behind here that's what should be expected from last generation when Sony was more or less behind Microsoft on a global scale for the most of the generation only catching up towards the end when Sony really gathered momentum and released some of the best games of that generation and started selling quite cheap consoles.

Sorry if I come across as ranting here, I'm just tired of how we all seem to jump to conclusions at the drop of a hat. Both companies are doing quite well.
Actually, Sony has sold far more consoles, including in the country Microsoft dominates - the U.S. In launch week, the One managed to only sell one million units world wide. Where the PS4 managed one million in America alone.

I'm glad Microsoft is getting fucked. They showed their true colours - how blatantly anti-consumer they are, and now they pay for it. No amount of back pedaling or spin can undo the damage. We know now what they are and what they want. I hope they burn to the ground for it.

Sony's only slightly better. But at least one asshole gets what it has coming.
Sony did actually patent a way of preventing used games before the Xbox One and PS4 were announced. Yeah, Sony is just as bad as Microsoft, but none of them actually went through with it. Competition is important. Also what do you mean one asshole gets what's coming? 1 million consoles in those few countries where it actually launched (most of Europe didn't get it so worldwide is an overstatement) is still pretty damn good.

I find it extremely childish to hold grudges against this since it's something that didn't actually happen. By all means, be childish, wish for people to lose their jobs, wish death upon the CEOs because after all overly dramatic response is the only proper response on the internet.
I will indeed wish Microsoft fail. People will lose their jobs. Yup. That's what happens. Or were you hoping I'd want a greedy, insidious, lying company to stay in business. Not an actual question.

If all you've got is name calling, I'll go ahead and leave you to it.
What about Sony's patent? Isn't that just as anti-consumer as the log in once a day thing? They were seeking out to accomplish the exact thing as Microsoft. Hate them all you want, they're not failing just because Sony sold more consoles. Competition is what prevented the online bullshit of Xbox One, if Sony doesn't have competition what is preventing them from applying their patented technology? Loyal customers? Nintendo? None of those matter.

I don't like Microsoft for various reasons, I don't want to have an Xbox One, but why waste my effort on hating them? Why wish for thousands of people to lose their jobs? I think that's just as selfish as any CEO wanting to increase his salary. Wanting thousands of people to lose their job because of something they didn't do.

Also what do you mean with name calling? I haven't called you any names. I simply pointed out that your behaviour is kinda immature.
Why are you trying to tell me Sony is bad? I said Sony is just as bad. Do you think that somehow means I should revert all my thoughts about Microsoft? That repeating it over and over makes me like Microsoft more? The point is dead - move on.

Oh. The rest of your comment is more of you repeating yourself. No matter how many times you whip out the "thousands of people" rant like it means anything, it makes no difference at all to me wanting a bad company to go under. Here, let me continue your ad absurdum further: let no one be put in prison for a crime - their family will lose a loved one! Let no company that steals from investors be shut down - so many people that had nothing to do with it will lose work! It's no more valid when you use it. But obviously you don't understand that and will repeat yourself again.

Calling someone or their actions childish is called ad hominem. But you knew that already. Don't pretend.

Now please correct your errors in argument, or don't waste more time.
So Sony is just as bad, but only Microsoft should burn to the ground? Could you at least try to pretend that you're being rational?

Also your argument is flawed. If someone wanted to murder someone, does he deserve to go to jail? That's the judgement you have cast.

Any chance we can get global sales of both consoles at some point or another? Would be nice to have more cohesive data than just day-1 sales in the US, 48-hour sales in the UK and day-1 global sales of the Xbone... in terms of sales, where do each of these consoles stand at the current state of time compared to one another?

Maybe we'll just have to wait till the end of the quarter...
Sony has reported the total global sales of 2.1 million consoles, source:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/12/03/ps4-global-sales-update/

At a 2-1 ratio I think it's safe to say Sony kicked Microsoft's ass, especially considering they have months of orders locked in.

Oh dear. You failed again. Let's go from the top and correct your errors.

I didn't say "only Microsoft deserves to fail". I said "at least one" asshole is getting what they had coming. You can try so desperately to stretch my words and make an argument I never gave. But it won't get you far.

What part of "ad absurdum" did you not understand? I was making an absurd stretch of the argument to demonstrate to you how silly that is. The irony is you missing it.

I tend to consider reading the argument and not making things up to be rational. But please, tell me more about how I never said Sony is bad.
I understood your argument, it was just a terrible analogy since it was nothing like the topic at hand. Ad absurdum has its uses, but you failed to use. Mine about jailing someone who wanted to commit murder is also an ad absurdum and it explains exactly what you are thinking.

If Microsoft falls Sony will have monopoly which will worse than having both of them around. We have seen this in action already.

You are also repeating the fact that Microsoft is failing. On what grounds? Only selling about 1 million in 24 hours.

I don't really care about the argument you guys are having, but ...
Even if the Xbox brand were to fall and would disappear from the face of the earth, it doesn't mean that Sony has a monopoly. With Microsoft out of the picture, aside from still competing with the Nintendo Wii-u, there would be a bigger emphasis on Console gaming versus Pc gaming. People that don't like Playstation nor Nintendo exclusives will now go looking for different platforms to play games they like, which will lead some if not most of the the pc market.

And aside from that, if Sony tries to pull any shit that gamers don't like, then I'm sure that people will stop buying their stuff. Look at what happened to Microsoft and their Xbox brand, many a longtime xbox fan dropped their console like a bag of bricks when they announced their draconian ideas of the future and with the precedent being set that one can make a big company change it's ways, I don't think that Sony would get away with being a dick, even if they were to be the only console manufacturer.

I think it will be almost a good year before we will get any real solid factual sales numbers maybe...
If Sony or Microsoft choose to disclose specific sales figures.

Neither GAAP nor IAP require publicly-traded companies to disclose product-specific sales figures. We may be able to extrapolate sales based on revenue per division, but we'll have no way to get console-specific numbers unless Sony/MS choose to provide that information.

And the only reason they would give the information voluntarily would be to appeal to investors.
The PS4 has broken the record for biggest launch in the US and now fastest selling console in the UK. The Xbox One is going to be behind due to its extremely limited release (in comparison).

Either way I don't think bad sales figures are a worry.

Nintendo isn't really a competitor to Sony because there's a different audience who wants the games for Wii U (such as me, I love Nintendo), but people want more third party support and Nintendo is in general not very good at third party support. We never got to see if customers would actually abandon their platform over the online check-in we just know a lot of people were very vocal about it (lots of people still are and it's doing quite well).

However, you're right, I strayed far off topic and I realize now that I look really stupid. I apologize for this and I will not discuss this any further (which is why I gave a short response). Thank you for making me realize how stupid I've made myself look here. Please have a good day and now that I am not being sarcastic here, I truly am grateful.

If someone tried to murder you but you managed to stop him, do you just let him go?

Also conspiring to murder is a crime too.
