PS4 The Playroom Being Used by Some People for Live Sex Shows

The PlayStation 4's on-camera streaming feature is being used for something a little more daring than what Sony intended, with The Playroom's robots not having a choice but to watch.

For those with a PlayStation 4 camera, The Playroom lets people record themselves playing games and then broadcast it on the internet, with little robots accompanying the streamer for company. While Sony might have created the PS4's The Playroom to be used for gaming, some (well, a lot) of people are using it for very, very different purposes. Namely, to record themselves having sex live and then sharing their sessions online. It's gotten to the point that going to The Playroom sub-Reddit (warning: very NSFW -- even the banner image is NSFW, along with the other content) [http://www.reddit.com/r/ThePlayroom/comments/20h2q5/my_apology/] will link you to a host of lewd The Playroom images. Just imagine what the little robots are feeling while they're exposed to people doing the nasty live.

Last year, Twitch acted on non-gaming shows on the channel, [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129961-Washington-Couple-Become-Twitch-Stars-With-PS4-Call-In-Talk-Show] and later pulled all The Playroom listings from Twitch. It seems, PS4 users that have a little too much time on their hands found a new avenue to exhibit their "work."

Arguably, putting a camera and an audience to people might mean that live sex shows are an inevitability, but at this day and age, what's the point? Just by using your browser or going to Google alone, people can be exposed to as much nakedness, and porn as they want. Then again, with the "shows" gaining traction, that might be the answer why some people do it. I do feel bad for Sony, though, and I can see them acting swiftly to take action against offenders. Let's hope they don't outright discontinue The Playroom itself for the sake of those using it legitimately.

I suspect that the very fact that it's something you're not supposed to do, and that you will likely show your performance to people who don't want to see it, adds an enticing layer to the experience for a lot of these people. Something you couldn't get from a video upload service intended to showcase this sort of thing. This is why "The Playroom" was always a bad idea, the more you tell people not to do something the more they're going to try to do it.

Yeah, fair point. But even so, they can do it even without The Playroom, right? Instant audience being the draw?

Now is Sony's time to react and come up with different rooms for different people creating different entvironments. With distinct bots for every room. I guess you can´t stop those people from playing small-flowting-bot-base-ball with their penises anyway.

I don't think this is the right site for this kind of article.
Not sure why you'd say this given the Escapist has an article about a streamer being caught having a wank and other-such loosely-gaming-related things. This actually isn't even that out of the way, really.

OT:
Yeah, well, after knowing what happens in other streaming video services, this isn't too surprising, although it would probably be interesting to see if it gets contained properly.

I do like how the reddit thing seems to have gotten flak for posting pictures of people that they willingly exposed already. Amusing.

I'm sure they could, but the direct nature of a service like this is the main thing about it I'm guessing. It's like streaming lite. You're not really committing yourself to it, just being an idiot with an audience with fairly simple accessibility. I mean, there's instant-audience streaming out there that also make profit from said video (of pornographic nature, obviously), but that doesn't mean everyone wants to do that. Some people just want to dick around and be all up in other people's business, right?

Haha, dude had to take all the screenshots of the Reddit because the people who were in them were complaining.

Looks like the blood came rushing back to their heads.

Well that's a surprise.

Said nobody outside of Sony HQ ever

Seriously, give humans a method of communicating and sooner or later it will be used for sex. How could they not see this coming? More pertinently, why did they include either an adults only partition for the service or put it in the TOS that everything uploaded has to be PG13 or M rated on pain of having yor PSN account closed?

I can' wait for Fox to get a hold of this, it'll drive PS4 sales through the ceiling.

Am I the only one thinking "I'd have cleaned the room before hand!?"

OT give people the tools to film themselves and it will always come back to sex

From what I hear it's a load of rednecks doing it, and the picture from the article corroborates.
But damn I need a PS4 now.
For Infamous of course...

Those poor little robots that live in the ps4. If I don't see a critical miss strip on this, then there is no point in life.

An people were worried companies would spy on you. lol. People will always make a exhibition of themselves when they can, all they need is a camera and a website.

Though, on the other hand, will this hit sales when parents go to buy a PS4 for their kids?

Makes sense to me. Exhibitionists will use any avenue they can, it's not really about the watchers so much as about the performers. It's weird, but to each their own.

Wait, little robots? What exactly do you mean? Like a sort of microsoft office screen companion such as the paperclip? I can just imagine the various speech bubble advice coming from it already.
How is this not happening with the xbone already then? Do they have some auto sexual-movement recognition that instantly stops recording? Or even continues recording whilst uploading it to Spencer's personal lunchtime laptop?

I dont think they have a system that uses kinect to stream (only Skype but that is like a private chat), you can only share gameplay footage.

Sony Exec: We are going to give average Joe the ability to stream easily and live from their PS4 camera and interact with AR items including little robots, this cannot go wrong.
Other Sony Exec: Average Joe is gonna get his dick out and swat those robots...you know that right.
Sony Exec: Pssh if I know guys, and I know guys, they will never ever ever do something that stupid.
