PSN Apparently Back Online, But Only For Developers

Reports suggest that the service is "shaky," but working.

The PlayStation Network, which is currently in its fourth week of downtime, may soon be back to its usual self, if the rumors that Sony has gotten at least some of it up and running are to be believed. Sources suggest that Sony has restored a limited amount of functionality to the developer side of PSN, functionality that will hopefully spill over to the consumer side soon.

The rumors comes via NeoGAF, where a poster who works for a third party game testing company in Canada said that PSN was up and running where he worked, at least enough to play a game's co-op mode. Since that post, moderator Kagari reported that a number of other developers had confirmed to her that their part of PSN was working. She also reports that things are a little "shaky" with the network at the moment, and certain features, like the ability to sign up for new accounts, still weren't working.

If this is true, it could be a very positive sign for PS3 owners - not the mention some rather frustrated developers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109975-PSN-Problems-Make-Trouble-for-Dark-Souls-Devs] - and would gel quite nicely with the implication [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109930-Sony-Needs-A-Few-More-Days-For-PSN-Restoration] from Sony that PSN could be back up in a few days time. We've contacted Sony for comment, and will update if and when we hear back.

Jelly-wobbly (kind of wobbly but stable) or skeleton-wobbly (barely working, may crash any second)? I hope the earlier.

Sounds like good news but we can't break out the ewok song yet. They still haven't brought psn to the customers.

I kind of actually don't care at this point. I'm sure I'll feel differently when the next big multiplayer game I will want to play comes out....
... Starhawk I guess. But for right now, the most annoying thing is the patronizing ps+ "reward" we're getting for not caring.

This is also what I am wondering.
Will it just crash if millions of people get back online the day it's "up" from overload of a tender and sore server?

i just hope that sony is seeing how long it has taken them to get the network up and increases the compensation proportionally. other than that, i guess this is a good sign for the ps3 users, so yay

Based on the length of time PSN has already been offline, coupled with people's shaken confidence in the network, I highly doubt there'd be millions of people. Still, seeing as the whole network has had to have been rebuilt, it'll still be very shaky going to begin with, regardless of how many people attempt to log in.

It makes sense to test it out first, not sure why developers are the best for that but as long as it's done. I just hope it'll be back soon.

Don't care. Where's my identity theft protection, Sony? Prioritize: people's lives not being fucked up is a hell of a lot more important than some games of Duty.

It being down for you isn't costing them the money it being down for developers is. Get in line.

Good, after all developers need it more then we do. But if they have limited functionality, then it can't possibly be much longer before I can finally play some Red Dead Redemption or Assassin's Creed Brotherhood multiplayer! =P
