PSN Hacked Again!!? (3rd May)

Sony new about the exploit used to hack them for MONTHS. Did they fix it no. Did they hire a security group to stop attacks from this exploit no. All they did was try to sue people and put there head in the sand.

Did you hear that from the rumour mill and just decided to keep voicing it? From what I have seen 99% of shops do more or less the same thing with your CC or DC details, the fact it happened to Sony means nothing, it could happen to any online shop. It's not like Sony mailed every person saying "hack our data base and steal all our info, it's a piece of piss", like your making them out to have done.

Sony just wanted to keep hackers out of PSN, so people who wanted to play legit didn't end up against Rambo or something.

Sony sued Geohotz, not for hacking it, for releasing the "how to guide" on the net for every Tom, Dick and Harry to take advantage of.

I feel sorry for Sony at the moment.

I'm thoroughly sick and tired of hearing this crap, and the people who say it are fucking brain damaged.. YOU FEEL SORRY for a faceless multination company WHO DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU and who abuse the trust you put in them by allowing them to hold your personal details.. and can't even keep them safe, and even now after multiple intrusions and every fuckers details in the hands of criminals YOU still say you're sorry for Sony.

I'm a bit curious to know how this will go for that guy, I mean if he thought he was under legal pressure before how is he going to react when the FBI are knocking at his door asking questions about all of this... he's got to be pretty high on the list of suspects.

Well, to be honest, there was no need for verbal abuse there...

Also I would be 100% behind you if Sony had just GIVEN the personal information. Unless you are a hacker involved in the attack or a Sony employee in charge of security you know nothing of HOW Sony was protecting the information. Also it's perfectly fine to feel bad for them... Sony (as faceless as it is) still has a lot of very human employees (all of them, I hope, with faces) and they will be taking a lot of flak. Losing their jobs even if Sony keeps taking hits by people who feel they can attack the big faceless corporation.

In the end I feel bad for them, but I also feel angry. Angry that not enough people are angry at the hackers responsible...

This made me lawl. Seriously, some one is a bit angry and needs to get a reality check to how the real world functions. I am repeating what was said above me but, I also feel bad for Sony. I will give that I am a big PlayStation fan and always hate hearing something bad about the company but I also know that their are lots and lots of human beings who's job is on the line to get this fixed.

Imagine for a moment, that you just work as a customer service rep for Sony right now. You had nothing to do with the hack or preventing the information from being hacked. You handle inquiries and phone calls. Now this hack has created a sort of hysteria as people are no doubt calling every second to find out if their information is safe. NOW, he/she makes it through her 8 hour shift and goes out with his/her friends that night. Good friends won't do this but I know everyone doesn't hang out with only their best friends. They have to hear about how terrible/stupid/irresponsible Sony is from them and probably just get a little crap from them just because they know she works for Sony. It's jokes, but it still kinda get's to him/her.

^^THIS is what I mean when I say I feel sorry for Sony. Not Sony, the faceless blob. Sony the company full of thousands of people with faces and families. I know if the company I worked for had a security breach like that, it would not be fun to come to work for a while.

Also, I feel more angry at the hackers than sorry for the workers. This is their job and they are getting paid to handle it. The hackers have no right to invade the privacy of the countless millions that they tried to steal from. These are the filth of society, not corporations like Sony. Groups like Anonymous, though not directly responsible, do promote the idea of this sort of cyber terrorism.

I have other thoughts and reservations about the type of people who can't empathize with what is going on at the Sony offices right now but I will keep them to myself as they add nothing to the conversation.

Watched the whole presentation. This has just reiterated my thoughts on Anon. If you were to ask me which branch I was against it would be anyone that decides to use DDoS attacks to further a cause. The speaker also mentioned of a hacker who called the DDoS attack juvenile and wanted to teach how one could use more severe forms of hacking to further their cause.

I know, with out a doubt in my mind, that it just makes sense that someone who is either directly in Anonymous or formerly of Anonymous is the person doing these attacks against Sony. Now I actually hope it is someone inside Anon because I know they wouldn't use credit card information to hurt the general public. They are a human rights movement (thank you video for giving a name to it for me) but at the same time with its anonymity and lack of leadership or control, anyone could rally up enough people to do some serious damage. An attack like these past ones on Sony (assumptions, no real experience on the matter) could be done with a relatively small amount of people. Even a single person, though since more than one attack happened pretty quickly, I would say it was probably an effort with multiple parties involved.

I do retract my statement about calling Anon Cyber Terrorists. This doesn't mean I agree with what they do. I also know that with their attack on Sony, and then a hack shortly after. They have to be involved. Maybe the DDoS attacks revealed a hole in their security that some hacker who was involved in the attack decided to take advantage of for his/her own gain. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

Well, to rally up such a group, you would need to find like-minded, and most of all, skilled people.

Thats pretty hard without going public. And if you did go public, people who are against it could see it too and form a counter group. So, not just any 12yr old could rally up a group to do hes bidding.

These attacks are most likely done by small closed group of professional hackers and PS3 tinkers. They probably saw GeoHotz "failed" lawsuit and Anonymous announcement as a sign to start their act. Atleast, thats my theory.
