PlayStation®Network accounts will soon be renamed Sony Entertainment Network accounts.

On February 8, 2012, ?PlayStation®Network accounts? will be renamed ?Sony Entertainment Network accounts? or ?SEN accounts?. This change will take effect at the same time as upcoming PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®Vita* system software updates. After you update the system software on your PS3? or PS Vita , you will notice that ?PlayStation®Network accounts? have been renamed ?Sony Entertainment Network accounts?. This change will not affect the naming of ?PlayStation®Network accounts? when viewed on a PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. *PlayStation®Vita will launch from 22nd February, 2012.

This account change is a change in name only. You do not have to do anything and your username and password will not change.

Thank you for your continued loyalty and support during this transition

Sincerely,

The Sony Entertainment Network Team
Which begs the question, why fucking bother?

They seem to be going through all this trouble (granted I am not 100% how time costly this is but hey ho) and change everything that says PSN to SEN, for what? So it's Vita friendly?

Is the VITA not on the "playstation network" does it really have to distance it'self from PSN? What does me playing online have to do with Vita? I am never going to buy one those wastes of cash so again, why bother?

I can't be sure since I don't really care enough to look into it, but isn't this because they have music and video streaming available on the Sony Entertainment Network? So all they're really doing is converting the accounts across so you have one account across all their services? Or something like that.

I think they're trying to unify their multimedia (consoles, mobiles and TV) under one platform. It's not just about playstation anymore. At least, I think that's what it is

*cough* raises the question *cough*

It probably something related to what was said above. The 'not just playstation, but still mostly playstation' network doesn't sound quite as nice. Maybe even just so they aren't locked into the "Playstation" title for whatever else they produce that will use it. (Cuz seriously, Playstation 4 is going to be a stupid name)

I suppose it's because they either want to emphasize that the PS- I mean SEN has more than just games.
Either that or they're planning to expand the SEN to things outside of Playstation...maybe have it built into their other devices.

But you see, now all the hackers will be trying to hack PSN, and it won't exist anymore, because they are now SEN. Ahahaha it's BRILLIANT!
