Alright, this is a tricky one.
I want to play PSX games.
I have an old PSX that I got for $15 at a yard sale. It came with Sesame Street Sports.
I could download the game I want off of the PSN, but that's gonna cost a lot if I want to get a lot of them. If I bought a PSone with an LCD screen, would it be worth the money, or should I just suck it up and play the PSX? It has crayon all over it and I had to scavenge the cables from all over the house.

Well unless you get Tekken 3 and Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace then it will be worth it!

Oh, the ps1 had great games. if you odnt mind looking back on history and not minding bad graphics, then its a great investment.

Get a PS2. They all have backwards compatability iirc, and you can add the absolutely enormous PS2 library as well. You will likely need a PS1 memory card as well, but it's easier than having a PS2 *and* a PS1.

Off the PSN they'll run about $10 a game. That isn't a lot considering if you do find one for less you really aren't sure about the disk quality anymore. If you already have the games, it would be better to get a PS2.

Word, PS2's are pretty versatile. If you have a store nearby that still stocks PS1 games, then God bless you. I have to drive nearly an hour out of my way to get to one, and all they usually have are the earliest 3D shmups and tank battle games. Oh, and they have a sealed copy of Tomba! for $50. FIFTY FUCKING DOLLARS. I really hate that they know that game is worth that much.

Dont bother, if you have got even the most basic PC you can run the PSX emulator smoothly and use the very game discs in the DVD/CD drive.

Hell, it'd be nice to get anything resembling something two generations ago. I went into a couple of my local game shops a few days back and asked after Jet Set Radio Future (Original Xbox) and every one of them said "Sorry, we don't stock original Xbox games anymore." Their gamecube selection was non-existant as well. They still had a few shelves for PS2 games (normally ones that are still getting released across multiple platforms including the PS2) but for the most part, last gen games have been almost entirely phased out from my neighbourhood.

Hell, swing by the Gamestop where I work. We have more PS2 games than we know what to do with. Seriously, like, over a thousand. I know because I have to count them every 2 weeks. We even still have a rack and a bin full of Gamecube games. Good ones too, like Eternal Darkness.

Emulate it. The graphics are really dated by this point, and the upscaling helps a lot. Either that, or grab a PS2 Slim.

I still use mine, Mainly for Crash Bandicoot.

They might end up in ten or so years being worth a little if they're still in good nick.

Next week on Antiques Roadshow The SNES

PS1 is redundant to own, both PS2 and PS3 play PS1 games officially, and with identical controllers, and on top of that there's ePSXe.
