So I have been trying to connect to my internet and I just noticed awhile ago that ours is WPA2, which the PSP doesn't support. (we used to have WPA which it supported)

now my router I set to WPA2/WPA mixed mode but for some reason it won't detect it despite it being mixed.

If I set my router to WPA2 Personal, it can detect it but says: Not supported...

I got a tutorial here:

I run WPA2 and I'm able to connect to my network. I just updated to the most recent firmware and decided to give it a shot. Here's what I did:

Settings on the Router (I'm using a Linsys WRT54G)

1. Set Wireless Network Mode to Mixed

2. Set your SSID

3. Set you channel (I don't think this should effect anything but I'm using channel 6)

4. Click save settings

At this point you can choose to enable or disable broadcast. I have broadcast disabled but its up to you what you want to do.

Next go to your Wireless Security.

1. Set Security Mode to WPA2 Personal

2. set WPA Algorithms to TKIP+AES

3. Set your shared key

4. Click Save Settings

Once your settings are all saved here is what you do on your psp to connect to the network.

1. Go to network settings

2. Select Infrastructre Mode

3. Select New Connection

4. Select Enter Manually

5. Enter your SSID

6. For WLAN Security Setting select WPA-PSK (TKIP)

7. Enter your network key

8. For Address Settings select Easy

9. Set your connection name

10. check your settings

11. Save Settings

12. Test Connection

If everything is working like it did for me, you should now be on your network. A few things to note:

1. Mixed means you're broadcasting for both wireless b and wireless g.

2. If your network is wireless g only, this WILL NOT WORK

3. Since wireless b only supports WPA and not WPA2, technically your router is broadcasting both (and I know some of you have expressed concerns over security) so if you're uncomfortable about running your network in mixed mode

but at this part:

1. Set Security Mode to WPA2 Personal

2. set WPA Algorithms to TKIP+AES

3. Set your shared key

4. Click Save Settings

I have the choice of WPA2 personal, but it doesn't allow me to change the WPA Algorithms... Ie their is no Encryption option.

Anyone able to help? (Using Cisco router - aso can't make it WPA since some of our comps don't support it.)

Go through my post step by step and tell me where the problems occur.

--------------------

I'll make the following suggestion.

Do things one step at a time -

1) Go into your router settings and turn off security - Choose 'Disabled' from the drop down list under the Wireless --> Wireless Security setting (you're just doing this briefly so it should not compromise your network.) Then see if you can connect the PSP. If successful proceed to step 2. If you are not successful here we need to investigate other settings in your router. One thing I would suggest is making sure you don't have MAC address filtering on. If you do have it on, turn it off and try to reconnect. If you want to leave it on you will need to add your PSPs MAC to the filter.

2) If you were successful with #1 go back into the router and turn WPA2 with TKIP-AES on.

Then make the shared key something really simple and short - like 123. I'd choose numbers because they are not case sensitive and there is less chance to mess things up. I have found that when I try to connect to my network with non-computer appliances it often takes several attempts because I have a long and complex shared key - getting it right can take patience and time on devices that do not have a keyboard.

If you succeed with #2 then you know you can connect and it simply a matter of getting the same pass key.

Let me know how things go. If you run into problems let me know where they are and I'll try to help.

Oh, one final reminder, make sure you click SAVE whenever you change a setting in your router and try to only change one thing at a time. A stepwise approach may tke a little longer but it leads to much less frustration in my experience. Good Luck
