PSP games

There's a fairly good chance I'm getting a PSP for christmas but since I haven't really been keeping up with to date with hand held releases I'm at a bit of a loss as to which games are worth playing on the platform these days. So, I turn to you my fellow escapists to offer some advice.

I don't dislike any genres but I do have a fondness for RPGs, what would you recommend?

Also, I apologise if there has been a previous topic along these lines, I did a quick search but it didn't turn any up.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2, if that's your cup of tea. Fucking love that game

If you're into this sort of thing, I'd suggest Final Fantasy's one and two as they are straight up ports of the classic games. Crisis Core is good too and plays more like Kingdom Hearts

I would also suggest Katamari mainly because it's a great travel game and it's also very easy to just pick up and play, ya know?

or, better yet, buy monster hunter freedom unite. Its monster hunter freedom 2 + much more content.

Rock Band Unplugged was good I have heard. And I personally liked Untold Legends and Death Jr

I highly reccommend that you tell whoever is getting you a psp to try and get one that is capable of being modded. I'm not sure what qualifies it for that these days seeing as how the psp modding scene has progressed significantly, but anything thats version 1.5 should be good. I say this because having a modded psp is MUCH better, it allows you to use many emulators at full speed. Besides that, I would say Syphon Filter and Untold Legends are pretty good games.

Monster hunter freedom unite is your best choice in the psp series and is worth every penny. It's fun with hours of gameplay and an awesome multiplayer experience. No grinding for exp either. Your power relies solely on your skills and equipment. You can choose to be a blademaster or gunner and can alternate between the two as you wish. My favorite psp game really.

Im surprised nobody has mentioned Patapon 2. Apparently a lot of gaming websites have named it the best PSP game. I just recently ordered it and am eagerly awaiting it to come in the mail.

Other than that you can't go wrong with FF: Crisis Core and GoW: Chains of Olympus. All three of those games are probably in everyone's top 10 list.

Well I hate to just say the same thing as everyone else but Monster Hunter is your best bet.
Also I have just ordered Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops due to some pretty solid reviews so you may want to give that a look.

Rather than compile a good, but huge list like -Seraph-, I'll make a more condensed list on the PSP games that I personally liked. Look them up on the Youtube for more information and gameplay trailers. I won't mention any Playstation 1 or 2 ports on this list.
