I just picked up a PSP for my fiance and for myself. We play portable games like they were consoles. Sometimes ignoring the 360 or PC to play DS..and now the PSP. I need a little help here though. I'm not a nintendo fanboy, but I never really looked into the PSP too much (mostly cause I didn't have one.) until this last weekend. I hate renting games, so I'm going to 'poll' you awesome people to help me decide what to buy for the PSP.
My fiance likes puzzle games, some platformers, and (oddly) hack n slash RPGs. Also anything that makes her think.
I, on the other hand, like RPGs, SRPGs, JRPGs..seeing a trend here? Strategy games, good action games, well... really about anything that doesn't involve Barbie or My Little Pony... unless Barbie is riding the Little Pony into battle to destroy the mindless hordes of Cabbage Patch Kids while wearing battle inappropriate chainmail, grunting very suggestive grunts while swinging her giant battle axe, and spouting cheesy one liners Bruce Campbell style..

Currently we own: Daxter (came with her system) and F.F. Tactics. (I HAD to!)
Also, I plan to get us Patapon.
So, what are your suggestions, oh wise and venerable counsel of the Escapist forums?

Battlefront was pretty cool. Unfortunately, my PSP went belly up a few weeks ago (left trigger is jammed in.) Also try EA Replay. It has Wing Commander+Secret Missions, Ultima, Road Rash series, and a few others.

find a game called Brave Story New Traveler. Though it looks generic, its a really polished rpg thats looks great and is fast. Also try Jeanne de Arc. Its like a combination of fire emblem and FFT, but easier.

Try the Syphon Filter games, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters is really awesome; Kingdome of Paradise is a good action adventure game with RPG elements, Crush is a really good Puzzle game, Gurumin: a Monstrous Adventure is a Zelda Type Adventure game- really good; Dungeoun Siege: Throne of Agony is a decent hack & slash RPG; If it's strategy/rpg's you're looking for then Jeanne d'Arc and Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness are games that you SHOULD NOT MISS; If you like the Metal Gear franchise then you should also get Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (not Portable Ops +) it's really good and fun. My favorite game is Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and I would absolutely recommend it, but be warned, this game is T O U G H but VEEERRY rewarding. Another game worth mentioning is The Warriors. So there you go, SHOPPING TIME!!!

Road Rash AND Wing Commander on a F!ing portable! SWEET!!

I mean.. A good suggestion. I will take it into consideration.
Two posts, and already some great suggestions.
Zera, Thank you! Those both were games I was eyeballing, but wasn't sure about.

Wow! I have some serious money to spend... what mixed emotions!

I myself have a PSP that has a fake firmware.
that way, i can get a lot of puzzle games and old classic SNES and SEGA games for it.
BUT, that is a bit off topic.
So, for you, i have made a collection i thought wear a lot of fun and might interest you.
I am myself waiting for 2 things
1, God of war, (who is not)
2, Final fantasy CC (eng version)
I played the Japanese FF CC.. damn that game rules.

I will use Game trailers websites if you guys don't mind :p

Power stone
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2433.html
A rather short game, whits you can play on a train/bus ride, and still feel you had fun
It is a Beat en up, seen from above, even do it looks "cute", it is something you and your fiance both can like.
on second thought, this game might not be what you want, as it is a rather brainless beat em up.

Ratchet And Clack: size matters.
If you like daxter, this game you will like as well.
If you did not like dexter, this has more guns and shooting and it is harder (way harder)

Dynasty Warriors
not a great game, BUT very addictive +, for some reason my sister also likes this game, and so is her boyfriend :S
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/367.html

I have some other games I could post about, but i can´t really remember the names of them all ±P

Socom Tactical Strike is a lot of fun. GTA: LCS and VCS pass the time well. And of course, Final Fantasy I and II are great RPGs available for the PSP. Oh, and don't forget the Rockman and Megaman X remakes.

However, the game to get, of course, is Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (plus)

I love the Ratchet and Clank series. to see that the PSP version is getting some good marks from you guys pretty much ensures it's spot on my games shelf.
As far as the fake firmware, I have a DS to cover my needs for that stuff. I use a M3DS Real with a NES and SNES Emulator. I would be too terrified of bricking my PSP to do anything like that!
That beat 'em up game she may like actually. I'll peep it out.
Thanks guys for all the suggestions! Keep em coming! OH! Has anyone tried the DnD Tactics game? I'm a huge DnD nerd, so want to get it, but don't want it to be a waste of money.

It sounds like you desperately need Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness. Also, FFVII: Crisis Core is coming out in March.

I only scrolled through this topic so if you've seen these been suggested before the forgive me.

Maverick Hunter X- Is a really good sidescrolling adventure, if you don't like Megaman just put that fact to a side because this is a remake of Megaman X one of the few "good" Megaman games. I really dug it and I suspect given how long it's been out must be on the cheap.

Pursuit Force 1 & 2- Both are very well done, in the UK we got Pursuit Force 2 not sure if it's out worldwide yet but there both fantastically done combing racing with action. Pursit Force 1 is a little on the hard side but it might have gotten tweaked for the state release and Pursuit Force 2 is perfect in terms of setting the tone between really easy and extremely difficult.

Wipeout Pure- It's Wipeout for the PSP a decent racer with a good soundtrack

Twisted Metal Head On- A decent port of Twisted Metal if your into that sorta stuff

Tekken Dark Resurrection- A really good port of Tekken 5 with 2 new characters (Though Dragunov is much better the Lili)

Disgaea seems to be the one to get. I am currently playing through FF Tactics on the PSP, but I am always up for something different.. i suffer from extreem game ADD.. I will play 5 or more games at the same time.. well in the same day not all at once... although I did level grind FF II (US SNES) with my feet while playing Final Fantasy Legends II on my ORIGINAL big grey battery sucking brick (still have both.. they still work) Gameboy.
Super nerd!
