People won't praise a game for how optimized an engine is and how beautiful and smooth it looks on Medium graphic setting (more beautiful AND smoother than most other games on their Highest, e.g. COD4, Bioshock around the same time), IF it gives them a "Highest" option that they can't run.

So what should Crytek have done to make people happy? Hiding graphic options above medium, and profit.

what?

I'm sorry, but this makes no sense.
Why people ***** about "Crysis requires monster computers lol" when they can set the graphics to medium and enjoy a game better and smoother than COD?

Oh right.
Well, still, if Crytek hid those higher options, what use would the mind-crushingly expensive computers be?

OH SHIT!

Is this is a secret CoD bashing thread?!

Anyway, I have Oblivion on my non-gaming PC...and thanks to it's age, it can run on High. At the lost of "Distant Land", making landmarks like the Imperial City invisible.

So, switching it to Medium vastly improved my experience.

I think he meant, that... you... uhm... fucked if i know..
Could you please reread that, and rephrase it into laymans' terms so that us lesser folk can understand it? Pretty please?

I'm not bashing COD. I just find it interesting that people are unhappy NOT because a game looks shitty or poorly optimized, but simply because they can't MAX it out (no matter how extreme the max is).

a lot of people, myself included expected better from Crytek. I knew with the first game I wouldn't be able to play it smoothly with everything maxed, but I did it every once in a while just to see it. I was really disappointed with the visuals on Crysis 2. Yes, it still looks good, but it doesn't look even equal to the first.

You are absolutely right when you say that Crysis (1 and 2) still looks as good if not better on medium as others do on high. IMO Crysis set the bar for graphical fidelity in gaming, Crysis 2 got fat (console port) and fell short.

You're getting confused. Crysis is still the 2nd most demanding PC game out there. Crysis 2 isn't even close.

Secondly, C2 is certainly looking good at lower settings, which is great for a lot of people. But, it doesn't look any better at top settings. And hey, comparing to black ops isn't saying much.

Anyway most of the anger isn't how it actually looks, it's over how it could have looked. Crytek literally promised the world and delivered an island, if you catch my drift. There's a bunch of CryEngine 3 demo videos on youtube that look fan fucking tastic, and Crysis 2 looks like crap compared to that. They also removed features from the original title - not just the free roaming experience (because a console can't handle that much) but also a lot of the destructibility.

Crysis doesn't require a monster rig.
Maybe back when it was released AND if you wanted to play on the highest settings, but medium to high already looks better than anything else and this isn't very demanding.
You don't even need a quad core.
