While this looks totally and completely awesome, I have one question.

Are travel expenses covered by this contest? Or will we have to pay for any of that stuff ourselves?
You will have to pay for everything else yourself.
Alright, seems I'll have to pass then. Thanks for the reply though.

Will you be doing this or something similar next year?
Hard to say but hopefully. We do what we can to get tickets to multiple events like GDC, PAX, etc. If we can get them, the community is the first to know about it.

Since I began my career as a software tester I decided to steer my career towards becoming a part of the gaming industry. I want the chance to provide players with the type of deep and immersive gaming experiences that I have been fortunate enough to have, and to be a contributor in pushing this medium to realise its true, nearly limitless potential. This conference provides an unrivalled chance to let people know what I can offer this industry. In order to realise my ambition I cannot afford to pass up this opportunity. Please help my dream come true.

Well let's see what how far I can get.

I've always been one to love putting things together in a creative way, whether it be art, song lyrics or a story, I've found thrill in seeing how small things turn into something more compelling and complex. I've tried other career paths but it didn't feel right from the moment I took my first step. With the path of game design I can be part of creating something complex and compelling that others can enjoy much like I have for a vast part of my life. A ticket to GDC would give me the foot in the door I need.

Very cool contest, and I'm envious of those that win. Truthfully I just couldn't afford to go though, if it was a vacation package it might be one thing, but being disabled means I have no shortage of time, but very little in the way of money, certainly not enough to travel cross country, get a room, eat, and whatever else.

I'm not very social nowadays, but attending some of the lectures would be cool i'd imagine. Espcially seeing as people are always telling me I should meet/listen to people from the industry given a lot of my rants.

Who knows, maybe one day they'll rent the ballroom/conferance halls at Foxwoods or something and I'll be able to snag a ticket then (or if any of my old connections are there, sneak in lol)

I just finished securing the first round of investment in my new mobile application company. No bullshit. I will use this capital to start the company, service the loan, and pay myself and my partner for the initial development of several applications, including at least one game or game-like product.

My application and appeal is not only one of need, but of ability to capitalize. I'm currently self-employed and able to get travel funds and time. Not only will I be able to use a ticket to GDC to aid my venture, I can and will show up.

Application:

I've been orienting myself to enter the games industry for the last five years. I've written for casual and hardcore review sites, I've written games criticism on my blog and academic criticism in a university context, and I'm working on a game currently and have joined the IGDA. I'm networking extensively here in Vancouver and had made plans with a few others to share a hotel room when financial difficulties prevented me from buying an expo pass. My transportation and accommodations are all taken care of; I just need a convention pass to take the next step into the industry.

As a computer science student with a specialty in graphics, i've worked hard to understand all the technical challenges in bringing the breath taking graphics in video games to life. A great number of the sessions at GDC are on the challenges faced making each game and how each team solved them. I want to further my learning by attending these sessions so that i might be able to get my dream job working with graphics and animation engines.

Actually this looks pretty cool.

I hate that things that I like cost money. WHAT A WORLD IT WOULD BE IF THIS WASN'T SO

Spiiiiin, I might be out of town doing other things while this is going on. You should totally just change the date of the GDC for my convenience! :V
