This idea came to me whilst at the airport, with my laptop, and people behind me along with relatives beside me basically watching whatever I do.

To me being in public like this, just going through what I normally do on the internet, is a tad awkward now that the world is now in the place where I go to basically escape from the world.

Caught myself mindlessly wandering onto 4chan while at university. Thank god the first thread that popped up was a pony thread, and not bestiality/cp/guro/hentai/necrophilia/goatse/tubgirl/traps/coprophilia/gilf porn or anything else that's popular there.

I can't go on the net if someone can watch. Especially at uni. Someone is watching, someone is ALWAYS watching. That' why I always take my laptop with me, and find a corner where I can't be watched.
Same applies to books I'm reading.

My avatar makes all my posts more epic.

I need my curtains closed if I'm using my laptop at home. (especially if I'm watching MLP. If I hear a sound I jump. Confound my large, inquisitorial family) My window is in a bad place.

I used to watch zero punctuation in the campus library just to count how many escapists/ZP fans would stop to watch. There are a LOT in Brisbane. Go figure.

Still haven't been there. Sorry Yahtzee, I'll visit one day.

But one of my mates has been a few times. He doesn't even know what ZP is. So I guess its not just a place for Escapists to actually verbalate with each other. It's quite successful with non-gamers as well I believe.

Generally if I'm in a public place, the things I'm willing to look at it limited by around half: I'll check emails and facebook, read manga that doesn't contain explicit images, only listen to music or go on youtube or equivalent sites if i have my headphones.

I don't like people watching me enjoy what should be private me time

I would imagine having people watch you while you surf the net would be disconcerting. However I don't know personally because I don't go outside. Ever.

I think most of the places i hang out on the Net are pretty normal.
Though, sometimes headlines in the Escapist can be...misguiding.

Also, i don't like going to Youtube when someone's watching. I do NOT want people i know to find out i like ... well, lets just say anime-related cuteness/crazy stuff (not in a disgusting way), or what music i listen to. Some of it might make them think I'm crazy. Or just weird. Which i am. Not crazy. Weird, i mean. 100% crazy-free, that's me.

And for a moment there, i was in a WTF? -state, when most of the posts in this thread were made by people with Pony-avatars, and a Jackie Chan one. It made me think i missed some international "use a pony/cow/Jackie Chan as your Avatar day...

Though, sometimes headlines in the Escapist can be...misguiding.

It's almost embarrassing trying to show someone a video or article, only to open the Escapist to find one of those headings, or 3 of them in the center of the screen.

I've had to defend this site a few times before.

I get bored enough when traveling that it doesn't bother me that others might be watching my surfing habits. It's not like I'm busting out the oddball porn. I find it more annoying than anything....sorta like someone reading over your shoulder.

I only interweb on my droid now when I'm out and about, that way people can't really see what I'm doing. I still can't bear to read Menage a 3 in public though.
