Publisher's Club discontinued

Hey friends, if you haven't yet heard The Escapist is under new management (again) [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/703.1055804-Escapist-Under-New-Management-Again]. We're making a bunch of changes starting ... well, last month. One of the upcoming changes is we're discontinuing the Pub Club.

While the new owners sort through the various servers to find out what's stored where, please take a moment to go into your profile and cancel your Pub Club membership to ensure you won't be billed. The auto-bill system is ... well, to be honest, we don't know where it is. We're looking for it so we can shut it down.

As we transition the website to whatever its new incarnation will be, I'll keep you updated about how your visiting experience will be changing for former Pub Club members. A lot of that is TBD.

Does this mean a return to the obnoxious adverts that plagued the site in the past? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the odd pop up bar or adverts down the side of the screen or videos on videos again, they may be a necessary evil. But loud auto playing videos are not fun.

I think there was one or two who might have paid for it before they gave it to everyone.

But yeah, not surprised it's going and I'm not really gonna miss the perks. The lack of ads was neat, as were the title customisation, but that was really all I liked about it.

Hopefully you find a way to bring it back or maybe just put the perk of changing your title as a normal user function. I like my Titles

i'm not so sure we can change it anymore. like our profiles when you look at it seems empty. we are kind of stuck with our current title and avatar

edit : meh, never mind, seems we can change it after all. but for thoise of us that have just received the pub club, there's no subscription that we can terminate...

Can we make sure there aren't pop up videos? I refuse to use this site on my phone because of those damn videos, and having pub club doesn't stop them on mobile.

Maybe I've just got lucky, I've not had an advert for a few months now, I assumed it was a symptom of the site going downhill. I'm fairly certain I'm not using any sort of avertd blocking software.

I shut down my PubClub when it stopped preventing the ads. Now, like Catfood220 above, I don't see ads anymore, and haven't for a while. I didn't realize that was unusual, just figured the site wasn't hosting any, being unstaffed and all.
