Ok you know the part, (completley put me off doing drugs thats for sure)

Mia snorts the "madman" heroin thinking its cocain and she OD's in a pretty bad way, Vince freaks out and drags her over to the dealers place where he has to stick (stab) a needle of adrenaline into her heart

so would this acctually work? was this common practice for dealing with OD?

It dosn't seem that plausable to me

I don't actually know.
Most likely, though, it doesn't really work that way, but at least it made for a great scene.

It actually could.
The adrenaline would make your heart start, and you'd be pretty damn awake, too.
It won't always work, but it can.

There is a device called and Epipen which you use in a similar way during allergic reactions. It gives the body and adrenalin shot like in the Pulp Fiction. I'm not sure if it works for OD though.

I kind of doubt you can penetrate your heart with any given object, and "walk away" without any consequences.

It possible, but they would have saved time if they gave it to her through the arm.
Isn't the point of injecting it into the heart to insure that it reaches the heart - since, you know, the heart wouldn't be pumping and shooting it into her arm.. well, yeah.

Didn't think of it like that, I think you might be right. Thanks.

I think most adrenaline shots these days are applied to veins rather than the heart (or so my paramedic friend tells me). I don't think he's encountered drug overdosage yet though...

It really doesn't, this was address in a lecture I had a while ago. While adrenaline can be used to treat heart problems, doing what Travolta does in the movie would not work, she would die.

She was basically dead and the adrenalin keeps the heart thumping increasing blood presure and the body's ability to deal with any form of damaging or traumatic events. She is going to suffer later for it but the permanent damage could be minimal versus the permanent death.

I don't know if it would be as dramatic, effective or immediate as the scene in the movie but those needles are like a x10/x20 multiplier of what your body would make in response to a fear enducing event.

Interesting fact: In men fear reactions (most of the time) trigger an anger response because fear makes you more likely to flee to survive while anger makes you more likely to take an early aggressive action. Handy while hunting.

My understanding is the epinephrine is a vascular constrictor, so shooting it into your heart would be a bad/absolute last resort thing to do. Epi-Pens are meant to be injected in the thigh, in hospital they also can force it into your lungs since the tissue walls absorb chemicals into your bloodstream faster then just about anywhere else, or they give you an IV. Also, although reaction is pretty instantaneous and may save your life, but you need to go the hospital IMMEDIATELY, since after the adrenaline wears off, you fall back into anaphylaxis.
