So. I'm sat here listening to Pendulum with my sound system fairly loud and wondering how long it'll take before my neighbours batter my door down and stab me. And this made me think of a few things:

Firstly, do you piss off your neighbours with loud/bassy music (if you have any neighbours), or do they do it to you?

Secondly, what's the heaviest song you've heard in terms of sheer output from your speakers? I once knocked the clock off my wall testing my surround sound system; I was playing this at the time:

Once I was riding with my friend and we had this song blaring with the windows down. And I hate people who do stuff like this.

Specifically, go to 2:30 in the video and you'll see what I mean.

And for the sake of heavy music that sounds great when blared, you can't go wrong with some Strapping Young Lad [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4G_IO5zmwM&feature=related]

First +1 for your music taste Pendulum and the Prodigy are awesome :)

OT: I don't really have to worry about my neighbours, since one house is empty at the moment, and the others are almost always on vacation.

I don't listen to much music that would fit your description. I do know that when this song comes on I have to turn the volume down a little because it's so penetrating.

I would piss off my neighbours, but I live about 500 metres away from the nearest house. I can play my music as loud as I want! I do hate it when those idiots in cars turn their bass up so loud you can hear them from 7 cars away though. That is annoying.

As for heaviest song, either

This song on very loud volume from my professional studio speakers actually made shoelaces bounce off the ground. Every time the chorus came in, it was like being punched in the chest

Or the 27 minute mark in Japanese Doom band Boris' 1 hour drone epic Absolutegetgo when they start pounding the drums. That bit has a tendency to break most of my headphones.
Do you have heavy enough tastes? I played your sample track and my pen disappeared off the side of my desk at fairly normal volumes..

My neighbour pisses me off with noise - but oddly enough not with banging bass music, oh no, with frigging talk radio shows. SO LOUD.

A friend of mine loves her heavy metal, speed metal, all that stuff, and she has it on so loud in her car that her steering wheel actually rattles. I dunno how she manages to drive it!

I play Bass and listen to music pretty much whenever I'm home, but no. I don't see the need to have music up that loud.

Bad for your ears n shit.

Oh hells yeah.

I find The New Black album works very well for this purpose. Some of the bass drops on that album (especially Almost Again) are insane. Youtube dont really do them justice, but here goes anyway.

This is also fantastic when played horrendously loud, through decent speakers:

If your music is too bassy it means you've got your hifi set up wrong, or a shit hifi, good music comes from "mid range" not bass... bass reflex is more air then anything

Also if your speakers move your doing it wrong, that means energy is used to move the speakers instead of creating more sound, redo the settings on your setup.

I annoy my neighbours but the sound is crystal clear thanks to Satellite speakers, I rarely put on my sub woofer.

eh, I'm not so fond of heavy music...

+ I use headphones (good headphones, mind you).

Soooo no, I don't annoy my neighbours with my music.

I do hear my neighbour often screaming at the top of his voice at someone though...

I play my guitar pretty loud sometimes but the neighbours, have only complained about the noise, when I bash the shit out of my drums.

I've never put music out loud enough to hear outside the house. Loudest I've ever played was with a few friends over, and I believe it was this song that got it started.

Interesting..?

My speakers don't move. They're pretty heavy. And I've got the sub set to the same level as the rest of my 5.1, so it's simply loud that's causing the high bass. But you have to admit that a decent woof behind the midrange adds a whole other level to the music.

I live in a VERY quiet apartment building, surrounded mainly by old men and some 30-40 year-old women that share an apartment above me. The loudest sound I ever hear is when they go past my door. I think its quite well isolated between the apartments tho.

I play a lot of loud music tho, strangely the people around me cant hear it. While listening to Across Five Aprils I made all my DvDs and some of my books fall off their shelves. Took me a while to tidy it all up...

The "Hey Arnold" theme song has some seriously groovy bass if you have a good sound system. You MUST try it! =3

Having a sub does add a layer to the music, but adds nothing to the "colour and soul" of a song as my uncle puts it, bless the old fuddy duddy.

I put my sub on when I switch over to mono sound, as in take of stereo sound, because all the reverb just cancels out alot of the good noise.

I'm an audiophile you see, 9 speakers so like in a club they'd just cancel each other out.

Yes, I do irritate my neighbours with my music. As for my heaviest song, I don't know. I'll have to test them out when I don't have a headache.
