Puzzle quest is a game by developers Infinite Interactive which combines the over-done genres of the casual Match 3 and ArrPeeGee, and makes a completely new hybrid genre. And this, it does well. Orgasmically almost.
In puzzle quest, you start off as an apprentice in the Queens royal guard in the land of Etheria. You do odd jobs for a while, gaining experience and learning about a new plague of the undead that has suddenly appeared out of nowhere. While the storyline may not be completely original, the gameplay is.
Your combat is done through a match 3 game. There are several kinds of tiles: Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Skulls, Gold and experience. Each colour gives you elemental mana for spells you can cast to damage your opponent. Skulls are matched to damage your opponent instantly. Gold and experience are gained for a postgame bonus of buying new equipment and gaining new spells, either defensive or offensive.
This may sound pretty Ho-Hum right now, but the strategy involved is immense, as the enemy you are playing against has spells too and can use skulls against you. This leaves you thinking 6-7 steps ahead to avoid getting damage.
I love this game. It is freaking brilliant. Look it up and get it.
The End
EDIT:
'stuff I forgot to put in' (Sorry I was in a fanboy state at that moment in time)
The cons:
It is a difficult game. And it will tke a lot of time to train your character up to a decent level. It is best to just do the side quests in each town before continuing on the story. Problem is, the side quests are horribly difficult too and most of them are basically "go to point A, kill all monster B then go back and get another quest".
Another major annoyance is occasionally you have to fight several monsters in certain quests. seeing as you can only fight 1 at a time, this is hugely time consuming.
IF you can equip your character with the right equipment, spells, skills etc, then you should be ok. But don't expect to be the Whuppass-a-tron 3000 instantly.
