Wait... Why would you want to do that? You'd be quartering your processing power.headshotcatcher said:How do I set my quadcore processor to only use a single core?

Well then Hearts of Iron 3 obviously requires more than one core to run smoothly. Why do you want to only use one core anyway?headshotcatcher said:not on Hearts of Iron 3Eternal_24 said:It will use only a single core if that is all that is necessary. I have 4 cores as you could've noticed from my OP and it is FACT that the game runs smoother on OLDER MACHINES that have SINGLE CORE and there are messages that say people used a program of sorts to only use one core and it ran smoothly, rather than it being unplayable for 4 minutes and then 8 ingame hours pass (which is 8 seconds normally)..bodyklok said:Wait... I'm gonna have to jump in here and ask you if you really think that a quad-core processor basically improves the processing speed by x4, because it doesn't. IE: a quad-core 2ghz processor does NOT run at 8ghzbodyklok said:.......You'd be quartering your processing power.
I'm not some computational meta-mind, I have no idea how these things work.MusicalFreedom said:I'm gonna have to jump in here and ask you if you really think that a quad-core processor basically improves the processing speed by x4, because it doesn't. just clearing that up
some old software (old games are most affected) is not designed to handle multi-core processors, and runs unpredictably when it tries to use more than one core. from what I can see, it's mainly a problem with some old games (Thief, like I said earlier), and causes crashes.bodyklok said:I'm not some computational meta-mind, I have no idea how these things work.
My question was more along the lines of just 'why would you do that?'
I assumed he just wanted his PC to run quieter, but I had to be sure.
