Ok, so I signed up for the Quake Live open beta...and at first it all went smoothly for about an hour or so, but for the past couple of days, it has become an unplayable mess due to constant lag. At first I thought it was due to the wirless nature of my laptop's internet. Even though I have a good reception and high speed internet. It turns out it isn't, as even with a five bar reception and Vista Anti-lag running in the background, the game continues to lag and lag and lag... So then I got a message about it being my firewall, so I went in, and changed the settings to allow the quake live servers access... To no avail, so I ask you here at the escapist: What the fuck is wrong?

All my PC games lag, but I'm used to the fail in Vista. When you saw the shiny new graphics, did you honestly think "oh, this won't kill my CPU at all..."? Or did you do the smart thing and try it, realize it's crap, then hate it for its unreliability...

well that may not be the smart thing, but it was what I did...

I hadn't noticed; there's a little bit of lag, but no worse than I normally get in online games. What time were you playing? The servers might just get overloaded at certain times of the day.

My problem isn't network lag at all really it's the unplayable nature of the game. I swear it all ran fine and dandy during the closed beta for me and when I played it in open beta I can hardly get over 30 FPS which is really unplayable for this kind of game.

It runs smoothly when it isn't saying: CONNECTIVITY ISSUES in big letters.
And my computer came with vista, because sadly: vista is the standard OS for new Computers these days.
