I've been playing on the closed beta for a while now and i'm loving it. Since I couldn't find any threads using search, I thought i'd let y'all know that within the next 36 hours the beta is opening up to the whole public.

Q:L is, for those who don't know, a 100% free updated version of Quake3 multiplayer that runs entirely from within your browser.

Personally I find QL a very refreshing experience, its a highly competitive, totally unrealistic experience where player skill trumps all other factors in gameplay. The weapon selection is perfect - with each weapon serving a different function, becoming useless in some situations and ideal for others. The pace of the game is extremely quick, camping doesn't work at all, and this is (thankfully) as far from the CS experience as a game can be.

There's a built in 'friends' system so feel free to add me (edinflames) to your lists if and when you sign up.

Quake Live is the best thing to happen to PC gaming in a while, methinks.
I'm very keen on the business model they use, free to all with in game advertising during loading screens and placed on walls of maps like posters. Fortunately the advertising is done tastefully and is not intrusive or damaging to the game experience.

I never played Quake 3, but I'll probably give it a shot. Though if it's anything like UT2k4 I can probably only play it for small periods of time, they give me a headache after a while :)

Ssshhh... or they'll find us.

I have yet to try it out for more than 30 minutes of the tutorial. Too bad I got a beta key 4 days before the Open Beta...

I'm all for quake live, and am looking forward to the open beta. "Back in the day" I prefered UT to Q3, but that didn't stop me from playing it regularly. I imagine my skills have diminished substantially, and I expect I'll probably exist as a mere "free point" for a bit.

I am much the same, but trust me that a bit of practice and it all comes flooding back.

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't bring to the exact place to play quake live.
That is the exact place. You think you can play it before the beta is out? =p

I'm actually not a Quake fan but I'm definitely going to be overlooking that for this. Will be fun to see how the new territory is played. More importantly, I'm naked and need to stop procrastinating so I can get ready for college.

Oh, and:
