The idea was there, EA just assimilated and effectively pushed it forward.
You mean the Comic Series based on the game? It's still EA's idea they just got some comics made to hype up the game.

EA doesn't own Valve. They just distribute all of the physical copies of Valve's games.
All of them? I knew they did for Left 4 dead, I assumed it wasn't the case in general...?

As I've said before, I'd love it if Valve bought out EA ;)

The single most unforgivable thing EA has done in in entire history was apply such a horrible server and online interface to Battlefield Bad Company. Battlefield has been built on it's online play so the fact that such an unfriendly interface was used is infuriating, not to mention no prone! So with this disgrace to the BF line I condemn EA to a downward spiral unless they can stick to sports from now on, don't need their messy games bringing a bad name to other genres anymore.

I don't think Valve has enough capital to simply buy EA...
Not yet ;) Wait for the stock price to drop with further cycles of loss and Valve may have enough money then.

Reasons I hate EA

1. They took good ideas and killed them (Command & Conquer, especially the whole canon of the series)
2. They used to be innovative (General Chaos)

that's pretty much it. Yes, I know, Mirror's Edge (so awesome), but that's one innovative game over the last 5 years. Not good enough. And Dead Space is just what happens when Doom 3 and Resident Evil double-teamed System Shock 2 without any protection.

That's a filthy lie, the Dead Space universe was already around.

But that's just the thing, they DON'T want to invest/spend money in new IP's.
Instead they want to milk older existing franchises to death, for, well, money.
I call it The Lucas Arts Effect.
Really because I can't find anything about it being around before.

Also didn't they publish Mirror's Edge? That would show that they do spend money on new IP/

Oh and yes, they only published / distributed Mirror's Edge, DICE developed it.
EA didn't spend any money distributing it, DICE did.
Err, no. The comics/movie were made in preparation for the game, which was in production years before the comics were even conceived.

You're wrong i'm afraid. Dead Space is an original IP by EA.

EA are mainly a distributor. It is not their job to develop new IPs.

It is their job to invest in companies that develop new IPs and then to distribute said titles. Which is what they've been doing recently with Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, and Army of Two.

In the past EA made some immoral business decisions, mainly to do with how they treated their workforce. But at the moment they are trying to improve so lets cut them some slack.

I really began to dislike EA when I got Madden NFL 06 with my 360, enjoyed it. Rushed out and bought NFL 07 on release day and found it was literally identical, with the in-game font altered slightly and the team rosters updated to reflect the offseason transfers and draft.

Now I realise it's not simple to implement new features into a current-generation sports sim but seriously! It felt like I'd just bought an expansion pack for £50. Swindled was the word I was thinking of.

That said and done though, EA could really redeem themselves by pulling their fingers out and releasing Rugby 09 / 10 on the 360. Rugby is as popular as it's ever been, and there are no games available on the current console generation!

Every time they release a game it has a certain percentage of failure and success. Maybe 50/50 or 60/40

EA are concentrating on new IP's for thier future releases and handling them in the same way they do Dead Space with Anime and graphic novels to enhance the experience & deepen the story.
On topic, EA games (games actually DEVELOPED by EA) just suck. Madden is a good example.
So.... Does that means Dead Space sucks?
on the contrary it doesn't.
