Well, I went to see the latest Bond movie today. I actually like Daniel Craig as the new Bond. Before Casino Royale came out, I didn't think I would. He seemed too worn out and world-weary to play a good Bond.

I thought Quantum of Solace was a train wreck, though. The plot was messed up, the dialog was dull, and the only interesting relationship was the one between Bond and M. No gadgets (which I realize was campy, but still), and even the Aston Martin is only in the first scene. It was more like a mediocre B-list action movie that inexplicably contained James Bond as a character rather than a Bond movie.

Has anyone else seen it? What did you think?

I'm not quite sure I really did see it. All the camera shaking and explosions got in the story's way.

Definitely not as good as Casino Royale. I'll have to watch it again on a smaller screen so I could focus on the actual story a bit more.

I personally didn't mind the film much and it seemed to be keeping in with the "grittier" James Bond that Daniel Craig portrays, as opposed to the slightly more sophisticated and suave options of yester year. However the theme song made me want to cut of my ears and shove my head in a meat grinder as it really was that bad.

If I had to rate it I'd give it 7.5 out of 10, watchable but not great.

I know, it was weird, but when I watched Iron Man at home on the TV, it was MUCH easier to follow the action scenes. It didn't help that I saw it first in a crowded theater and I had to sit WAYYY up in the front where I couldn't really see the entire screen very well.

But with Quantum, we were well-placed in approximately the middle of the theater, so I don't hold out much hope for it.

I actually liked it, almost as much as Casino Royale. I enjoyed many of the older Bond films too, but I have to admit, they always seemed a bit too...cartoonish, I guess is the word I'm looking for here. Yes, I know that's supposed to be part of their appeal, but I was more often turned off by the over-the-top plots and cheesy dialog. I'll have to watch this latest film again, to get a real sense of how I feel about it. Over-all though it was at least enjoyable.

I thought that the plot took a definite turn for the worse in the second half, is my major gripe. I mean, you went from worldwide power conspiracy to

a lame scam to corner the market on water in Bolivia. I mean, anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of economics could tell you just how lame this scam was. It completely ruined the movie for me.

Ah it should have been called the Bond Identity, the Bond Ultimatum or the Bond supremacy. I dont know why they decided to remake those films with Daniel Craig. I know that Matt Damon was a bad choice for the role but really...

Jokes aside, if they had employed cameramen without the DT's and perhaps had some concept of pace it wouldnt have felt like it was over in under five minutes. It felt like a waterslide exciting and fun but over too quickly and ultimately if you were asked about the details of the tube on the way down it all happened too fast and there were no notable stand out parts

I didn't like Casino Royale and I definitely didn't like this one. What can I say? I demand perfection! Also Daniel Craig doesn't look like the gentle man hero I loved, he looks like a bloody wrestler. Grrr I'm gonna bite your ear loafs off and shoot you a couple of times because thats how a spy does it!

I actually enjoyed this film. If you look back to the connery films they didn't have much plot either. Its just cause casino royale was so good everyone is being critical of Quantum

I really liked it...I thought the plot was interesting, and was a nice change from the standard Bond setup of ye olden days, and I didn't particularly think the dialogue was dull at all.

I didn't even notice a lack of gadgets until someone pointed it out to me, nor did I miss the Aston Martin.

I think that people watched this film in the wrong mindset. Perhaps it is nostalgia, or perhaps someone watched a different version of all the previous Bond films, but they were never especially deep or intricate in their plots.

I watch Bond films expecting an action film with the same old iconic hero, not to experience a stunningly deep drama in which Bond develops meaningful relationships. Bond is not supposed to be the open, amiable companion - he's supposed to be hardened and weary yet compelled by duty.

Perhaps that makes me a bit dim, but if I wanted depth, I wouldn't watch a Bond film.

I really enjoyed it too, not nearly as much as Casino Royale.. But then again, who does?

I really like the turn (if you can call it that) which the movies have taken, now that Daniel Craig is Bond. Before it was all about ice temples, gigantic canons, world domination etc, etc.

Now what we've got is bad guys from other agency's that needs to be taken down.
Which to me is really awesome, and more realistic.

This is also one of the reasons i really like the new film: Quantum of Solace.

And you still should, because it's a bond movie - and they are good. Despite what other people says, it all comes down to what you personally expect from the movie.

I really enjoyed Casino Royale (thought it was the best Bond in years) and, even after reading all of this negative feedback, I still want to see Quantum Of Solace.
I spoke to someone who really enjoyed it. To each their own...

I liked it and i liked Olga Kurylenko alot

HOT!

As for the story, its most likely the middle of a trilogy, after these three films are done the Quantum group will be established as the new spectre and films will continue as they normally do, lots of independent stories with overarching stories that are briefly touched upon in each film

Totally agree with that.

I don't think we're done with this conspiracy though. Remember when he said he'd be able to give <what's his face> 26 countries? Not sure on the specifics, but this seems to tell me that the group is a bit more then water thieves.

although I didn't think it was terrible, it definately left me disappointed. The random jumps to new locations were terrible, the villain wasn't villainous, and the plot seemed really disjointed and jumpy. The lack of any kind of gadget was also severely disappointing. on the other hand, there were a couple of decent action sequences, and the acting was decent.
definitely not the worst bond movie ever, but nowhere near the top.

I hated Casino Royale because I thought it was a run-of-the-mill action film which completely dispensed with everything that was uniquely "Bond." I actually appreciated the attempts at humor from Bond in QoS. But it couldn't make up for the horrible plot and horrible camera (no excuse for such a blatantly horrible choice). All the action sequences felt tacked-on for their own sake. This could be said of any movie, but some incorporate them in the plot better than others.

Also, why did they devise a secret and all-powerful organization manipulating the world's political upheaval and call it Quantum? That organization already exists, and it's called Spectre.
