So I beat Super Mario Bros on the 3DS, which unlocks a New Game + (level select plus altered enemies). So I played around with that a bit and turned it off yesterday. Today I wanted to start a new game but because the 3DS uses a save state when you exit a VC game, I can't start a brand new game.

On the real NES you would just turn the power off and back on but that doesn't work here. How do I clear the save state? Surely I am just overlooking the option.

This might work...

From the HOME Menu tap the System Settings icon , then "Open."

Tap "Data Management."

Tap "Nintendo 3DS."

Tap "Extra Data" to select associated save data for game in question.

Select the data you would like to delete.

Tap "Delete."

Tap "Delete" again to confirm.

No virtual console save data there. Did Nintendo really overlook this?

Ok, I figured it out. For anyone else who is curious.

- With the game running, hold the 3DS power button and shut the 3DS off.
- Turn it back on and start the game.
