Question about Aasimar flavoring in D&D

My Paladin's backstory is that he's a High Elf reincarnated into a Fallen Aasimar (fallen because of his thirst for vemgeance, but his religious studies at his temple tempered his rage to being Chaotic Good).

I know Aasimar are an established, angelic race, but, since he used to be an elf, would it be okay to flavor him as still looking elf-like? (since he was reincarnated by his deity feeling sympathy).

He's not an Elf Assimar. He used to be an elf, and was reincarnated as an Aasimar.

Actually it's not locked. There's a sidebar in the Aasimar (Something like falling from/rising to grace) about how Aasimar can change their subrace through character development.

Depends on the setting, but Aasimars are usually just mortals of divine heritage in campaigns I have been in. You can look just as mortal or angelic as the DM thinks is appropriate. In my current campaign my sister is an aasimar but looks not different from a regular human. Her heritage is a vital plot-point, but beyond that she is basically just role playing a human.

Luckily my DM is pretty lenient on how I want to play my Aasimar. Gave him slightly elongated ears and purple eyes. Also he lives setting things on fire just a bit too much... (okay, WAY too much.) Gonna play him as Chaotic Neutral or Chatoic Good.

In the end, all you can do is ask your DM. He's the one setting the rules, deciding what is allowed or not. It also depends on the setting of course. We'll be playing in a setting where the world is already kinda corrupted/not very pleasant. So a CN or CG Aasimar is quite possible.

I know what it sounds like, but he's not entirely a pyromaniac. He has his fondness for fire decently under control.

I'm more familiar with Pathfinder's take on them than D&D's, but I don't see why an Aasimar couldn't resemble an elf. In Pathfinder, at least, any playable race can birth an Aasimar or Tiefling, after all. You could have a gnome Aasimar, and it plays just like any other Aasimar (outside of Blood of Angels variations) outside of flavor on the RP end and size modifiers on the mechanical end.

I also am playing a "likes to burn things" character, a Chaotic Neutral Gnome Sorcerer. She is friendly to anyone though, and willing to burn anyone, but doesnt just go burning anyone. Unless you call her (or Gnomes in general) a goblin. Last one who did that was an Orc. He is still an orc, but now she called herself "Ilona Orc-Tongue" due to her new necklace.

Ok...I guess she didnt burn him. She tried, but failed, so she just teleported above him and fell on him with twin daggers.

You were explaining the difference between a Chaotic Neutral pyromaniac, and a Chaotic Evil pyromamiac, and the sort of lines Sanquin would avoid crossing to retain the neutral part of Chaotic Neutral.

I'm playing a jingoist fishman (Triton) Paladin from an undersea Lawful Good dystopia (Mixture of Plato's republic, the Soviet Union, and ancient rome) who has an unchecked ego and an outrageous accent.
