so of course we all know about the current MW2 issue of not having dedicated servers for the multi-player however, if u remember http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UXrydp6lj4 at the end 10s, so with games doing server migration if a host leaves game is it really a big deal that there are no dedicated servers?

i am not really a true-blue pc gamer so maybe i do not know what i am talking about..so no flames please =D

There will be a 5 second delay, when a host leaves, as the server migrates.

That's what the developers said anyway- in real terms expect about a 10sec lag-pause

EDIT: youre also missing the point of dedicated servers but w/e, youll see once you play it.

The problem here has little to do with any real functionality that dedicated servers provided - that is simply a pretense for argument.

At the heart of the issue, you find that the real complaint from PC gamers is simply that they are tired of being ignored and treated like third class citizens when once there were the royalty of the gamer community. You see this often - from DRM that literally BREAKS your computer to having sub par ports of console games made for PC.

Of course, when I used to regularly play shooters (before the age of the online console), I had certain servers that I frequented. Dedicated Servers do allow for the building of a community within the larger community of the game as a whole. I suppose, the argument here should probably reference the famous sitcom Cheers. There are a lot of bars in Boston, but sometimes you just want to go where everyone knows your name.

If you want to know what advantages dedicated servers bring, then read this.

All of the above points, the rehosting time, not to mention that the host needs a reaaaaly good connection to ensure good pings for all, though the host will have the advantage of a 0ping themselves!

There is also a 9v9 player cap (which is pretty lame if you feel like a raucous huge game) and lack of dedicated servers will be a severe blow to clans who like to run their own servers, and will also prevent groups starting their own mod servers, like the gungames, deathmatches, surf levels you see in CSS. Basically infinity ward will say what types of games you are allowed to host, and that will be it

I can understand why PC users are angry. At the same time everything changes, I mean it isn't good to lull oneself into a false sense of security thinking that dedicated servers would always be around for every PC game.

That would be like me lulling myself into thinking Uwe Boll will never make another bad video game film.

I do own a PC and I do play games on it. But only things like WoW, Oblivion, Spore, and the Total War series so I can't say that I know how dedicated multiplayer servers work seeing as how I don't play multiplayer games except WoW,

I do know that latency is the same as ping, High latency and High ping are bad.
