I'm considering picking this up tomorrow or Saturday, but I had a question-

Does the game require online authentication for singleplayer/LAN play, or only for online play?

Thanks.

Obvious pirate is obvious.
Yes, because a pirate would certainly bother asking around when he can just download the game and find out instead, while a legitimate buyer would never bother to do any research before spending money on something.

If you are a legitimate buyer why worry about verification?

I think that the game allows you to install on multiple computers for LAN so that you can play with friends for an evening, but you need the authentication to do bot games and online play.
I apologize if this is inaccurate, but this is the extent of me finding the "answer" in an old press release talking about the pirating issue.

If I was a pirate, why would I worry about verification? I'd be downloading a cracked version. The only people who DRM actually bothers are legitimate users.

Well thats funny because the devs of Demigod agree with you and look where that got them.
