So I'm picking up Mass Effect 2 before todays Steam sale ends but I have a possibly stupid question. I have the first game on cd but will obviously be downloading the second game from steam. I know you're supposed to be able to transfer your save file to subsequent ME games but will I be able to transfer my ME1 save file to ME2, considering ME1 is from cd and ME2 was direct download?

Thanks, and I hope this question makes sense.

^Second that^ - And if all else fails, worst case scenario would be buy ME1 on steam, play through again, slightly better scenario, still buy ME1 on steam, but use exist save games, good luck!

What was your first play through as?

i actually havent played it yet. i got the first one as a gift, quite a while ago, but was waiting for the price of ME2 to drop before playing ME1. actually i was gonna wait for the 3rd one to come out so i could just play all 3, one after another, but i figure by the time i finish 1 and 2, 3 will probably be out. anyway, i guess i could buy ME 1 and 2, it just seems like kind of a waste to re-buy a game i already own so i was hoping that i wouldnt have to

And you don't. I assure you, ME 2's method of searching will find your ME 1 save file, provided you install both games on the same drive.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA >wipes tear from eye<

It would be a good idea to bring your ME1 character to lvl 60 and finish all the side missions before you port to ME2.

IMPORTANT- Play through ME1 once and then look up all of the missions and how they port to ME2 so you can play the game to get the outcome you want. It will save you one ME1 play through, two ports, and one ME2 play through.

Yea.... I have something like 300+ hours on ONE ME1 Shep because I had to replay the game something like four of five times, and something like 200+ hours on ME2.

I hope you enjoy the series. :? )

P.S. I think the DLC is well worth the price.
