So I'm late to the Arrested Development party, and I am just watching the episode where.

One sec.

SPOILER WARNING

SPOILER WARNING

I'm not going to spoiler tag this because my question and the entire discussion topic is based on the story so it'd be impractical.
Anyway: Michael (the dad) bangs this lawyer lady and the next morning figures out that she's blind, he's never had a one night stand before and decides that he has to call her, rather than taking his brother's advice and running away ASAP.

He said something weird though, he said, (let me make sure it's verbatim)
"When... can we date again?"
"Really? I thought you were like, just into this one night stand kind of thin-"
"Come on! I took a blind woman home with no intention of dating her again? PLEEEEASE."

So my question is this.

Wut?

I don't understand. Why is it bad to have a one night stand with a blind woman? I mean, it's not good to fetishise a person based on one traid of who they are, it mightn't be right to sleep with a woman purely because she's blind (in the same way it's not exactly right to avoid a woman who's blind) but it's not exactly evil. I mean we've all got tastes.

But why would having sex with a blind woman, with no intention of dating her, be bad?

I wonder if anyone else feels this way?
Why do/don't you?

Thoughts? Opinions? Is there a facet of dating that others think is "wrong" that you weren't even aware was an issue until now/recently?

See that's what I thought.

I also figured that the writers had to have some base of logic to make that decision on for the character though, it has to be a believable action and I never even considered that anyone thought this way.

I still wonder if anyone does, in fact, feel this way.

Meh. It's a reflexive bad habit to write handicapped people as conspicuously vulnerable even if that vulnerability has nothing to do with their handicap.

"Oh Gee, he had a one night stand with that blind girl. He's a horrible person because clearly she needs an honest and earnest person to take care of her because she's blind." Or something to that effect.

It was because Michael is so uptight and concerned about how other view him. So yes while there's nothing wrong with having a one night stand with a blind person, he freaks out because he's worried he might be seen as a bad guy.

That makes more sense. So what your saying is that no one in the real world actually thinks this, it's a reflection of his flaws.

Cool. I think I get it now.

Pretty much, Michael starts as the sane man, but over the series it get shown he's pretty flawed.
