Now i enjoy collecting achviements and was wondering if i have to buy a game via steam in order to get said achviements. The game im most interested in is The Orange Box. If i buy a hard copy of the game, can i still earn achviements and unlockables via other games (Like Poker Night at the Inventory)?

Yes, yes you can. Poker Night is a separate game, so it has separate achievements.

All games in The Orange Box support achievements(or they do now at least), they'd just need to be updated.

Buying a hard copy of the game is exactly the same as buying it off Steam, except that it installs faster.

You still have to link it with your account and you'll still get the achievements as long as you're online.

Some hardcopy games transfer your license to your steam account. See this link to view all hardcopy games that support this.
