You know how PSN and Xbox Live have have their own currency when you exchange real money for it? Im wondering if Steam has something like that, something where I can exchange money for virtual currency for use later so I wounldn't have to use a credit card. I don't have a credit card and my parents have a phobia of it for some reason.

So is there an exchangeable currency on Steam? (I really want deus ex for 2.50)

No, there's no exchangeable currency on steam.

To get a game you either use:

1) Your credit card
2) PayPal (which is probably linked to a credit card anyway)
3) Have a friend gift it to you

Alternatively if its Deus Ex you're after, go to your local game shop and look through the cheap bins. The EBs here in Australia almost always have a copy or two for $10 or so.

Deus Ex is £1.50 on Steam right now.

There's no unique exchangeable currency on Steam, you pay with your credit/debit card directly.
Just register and input your details, purchasing takes less than a minute and it's all digital download.

I dare say steam makes it TOO easy to buy games. Once your card is registered, be careful around your account. I have a friend who has a habbit of logging on the day after a night of drinking to discover that he made a few impulse purchases the night before that he does not remember.

While reading this post, my download of Deus Ex completed. I love Steam.

If you have a friend who uses steam but is allowed to buy items off it, you could get him to send it to you as a gift and then you could pay him back with physical money

I once did that for a friend and it worked out fine

Yeah, Steam has no money thing like PSN or XBL, but you need a credit card to buy them don't you? I dunno, but you should be able to trust Valve, and make sure you never save your payment details if you do, for the reason above.

Yes, but its an option if he can't get ahold of a credit card but still wants the game ;).

Souls could work, too. But mostly, cold, hard cash.
And yes, you could ask a friend to gift it for you. I'm one of the few among my circle of friends with a credit card that works online, and I keep being asked for "gifts", to the point my bank has called to ask if I had my card stolen -.-
