Question about Yakuza

I recently got interested in the Yakuza games after watching Yahtzee's review of Yakuza 4. What I'd like to know is this. I can easily get a hold of Yakuza 3 and 4 but finding 1 or 2 will be difficult. Will I be able to follow the story in 3 if I haven't played any of the previous ones?

Actually wondering about this myself. I did watch my friend play Yakuza 3 a while back, and it seems pretty convoluted. The main guy was running an orphanage for some reason, then he was beating some guy up in an office with a sofa. Id at least read a plot summary.

I got Yakuza 4 and it has a history mode where you can see all the other cutscenes and story from other Yakuza games...
