I've been looking at getting another handheld for a while but I've been wondering one thing. I intend for me and my gf to share the handheld and I haven't played a handheld nintendo since OG DS so what I want to know is do the new games have multiple save slots? Or does the DS have the ability to have multiple users?

I know that Fire Emblem Awakening, Animal Crossing, and Bravely Default respectively have multiple saves.

I wanna guess that Luigi's Haunted Mansion, Donkey Kong Country 3D, and Monster Hunter have multiple saves as well. Don't take my word on that one though.

The majority of 3DS games have multiple save slots. There are a few exceptions, though. The Etrian Odyssey games, for example, have only one save slot.

But, on the whole, 3DS games cater to multiple/cautious players.

I don't think there is a multiple account system on them, not sure, I'm the only person who uses my 2DS. The only 3DS games I have are Ocarina of Time 3D (2 save slots) and Fire Emblem: Awakening (3 save slots, 2 extra ones for saving during a battle).

And sadly, Pokemon still does not. And never will.

The pokemon is what kills it for me. Though it's nice to know some of the games I wanted have multiple save slots.

Dark Moon has multiple saves. You have up to 3 slots like the GameCube version had. DKCR I believe has at least 2, if not 3 save files as well. Monster Hunter I'm unsure of.

OT: Out of the 3DS games I have, the only ones with only 1 save file are Pokemon Y, and Sonic Lost World. All my other games have at least 2 if not 3 save files.

Monster Hunter does have 3 save slots. The Wii version had 20 something, if my memory serves correct. I highly suggest picking the 3DS version, it's one of my favorite games, and that is a list filled with nostalgia.

You can have up to 3 slots in Monster Hunter... just like in Project X Zone...

(I should seriously get back to one of those games someday...)

OT: Most games have, at least, 2 or more game save slots... The only reason why Pokemon "gets away with it" is because of it's duel versions or something like that... I don't know... (That's my headcanon...)

Having single slots in Pokemon does make your game feel more personal, and it'll feel more personal to trade with your girlfriend directly than being forced to use roundabout ways to trade with her.

You could get around the whole Pokemon single saves by getting both X and Y. One of you plays X and the other plays Y. Same game essentially. Plus, you'll have more of a chance to have different teams.

Pokemon could be a game you play together, too. As recently proven by Twitch Plays Pokemon, it's fun to play one game together.

As others have said, most 3DS games have multiple save slots. On top of that, I would add if you have the $30 or so extra to spare go ahead and get the 3DS XL if at all possible. You will NOT regret a single extra penny it costs, I promise you. The screens are significantly larger and make the thing a lot easier to hold and play, and the battery life is much better as well.

It'd be nice for people with little if Pokemon had more than one save slot though to be honest. Having your save feel more personal is one thing but being able to share games with family feels better.
