There's always room for new consoles, whether they're good or bad I welcome them. Just don't expect to knock the big 3 off their perches.

I think a max of say, 5 consoles at most. Otherwise it'll be hell on developers and there will be very clear quality differences between them.

Terrible name aside, I think there's room on the market. Certainly not in my room though. I have my Game Cube, Xbox,Xbox 360, and PS3 all hooked up. I am officially out of room in my room. The only reason my PS2 isn't hooked up (besides the room thing) is because my PS3 plays PS and PS2 games.

A new console can only survive in relatively closed markets, like the Zeebo or Ebox.

As for me personally, I likely won't bother with any new generation consoles from this point on.

I don't think we need another console since no one except those who want to try something new on the market, cause the 3 dominating the market are dominating it for a reason. We used to have a 4-5 company console war and look what happened. Then again, im pretty indifferent. I am getting a ps3 for the games that must be on console (because there are just some games that the companies refuse to release on pc for some reason) and using my pc for everything else, so I really don't care too much. I won't be buying it anyways.

The first feature it would need is to not sound like an Xbox. Really China, don't try to sound too different to America.

And I don't like exercise. Fuck you Ebox!

Is the third choice really relevant to the question? And I think there's no room right now.
And I'm surprised there are people here who are actually making stupid comments like "Wii is a casual console." I thought that age of blasphemy had ended already. (off-topic)

If the company behind the console had exclusives that were really good, then sure, why not. It would be nice to see a new contender. As for my thoughts on the Ebox being that new contender, I don't think it will. It's meant for a Chinese audience, and, most of the time, the targeted audience for video games is either the Japanese or 20-something Americans that act like they were lobotomized.

As our dear and belowed Yahtzee said: Gaming is what we do to relax, and you dont do that by doing 20 situps.
I think you completely missed the point. Try again. =P
The Ebox is designed by the company producing it to get people off the couch and exercise, so the point wasn't missed at all...

As for whether there's room for another console, where's the I don't honestly think the Ebox will be that big a contender option?

Because that's what I honestly think, The Ebox is seemingly designed to prevent China from becoming vegetative, So I doubt it'll even come out beyond China.

Unless the console was superior to the others in some way, there is no more room. I think every gimmick has been used in the gaming world. 3d, motion control, and super dee duper graphics that make water look like jewels have been used. Not much else that readily comes to mind that the public would enjoy, at least not for me. The only thing left is to be literally in the game, but that won't be for a while.

The only way a new console would be a good idea is if it:

a) Doesn't have motion controls, and
b) Is wired into your brain so you can control it with your mind.

there are too many already. i'm sick of not being able to play a game because of it being 'exclusive'. i end up buying the console just for a few games...damn dead rising for being so interesting.

Umm is there some sort of question about that?

Really?

A new console appearing at the dawn of the next gen would be ok I guess. If its good then it would be perfectly fine. But this "Ebox" sounds kinda like another Wii, which we most certainly do not need. At least its only in China.

But a new "proper" console that could stand up to the PS3 and the Xbox 360 would be interesting because it would make the fanboy war less of the 1 on 1 battle it is.

No. Of course not. Motion controls shouldn't even be included in it. If they want to make the EBox a good enough contender, they should think about software, not about motion controls.

The answer is "yes", and that console will play only one game; World of Warcraft. Who need inovation with a game as big as that?

Isnt there already rumors of Apple making a console for next generation? How many different competing consoles do we really need.

here is an idea for a new sega console, make only 2D games, make them side scrollers, beat em ups and every genre which just plain works better in 2D and make it and it's content cheap as chips all revolving around indie developers and watch us old schoolers reward you with our hard earned's
