only if they give me something, like in TF2. That said, I'm no farmer (of achievements).

or if I'm bored and feel like challenging myself a bit.

For the more challenging ones, it can be fun to finally attain them after trying to get them for so long.
Some are just stupidly hard or stupidly easy to get, which just makes them pointless.

Achievements are useless and have no place in single player games, but they are sort of interesting in multiplayer/MMO games where they give vanity items or bragging rights if nothing else, however mundane or easy they may be.

For instance WoW has an awful lot of mundane achievements, but when you get them they are publicly announced, a few "GZ"s pop in your guild chat, and for 15 seconds you are a somebody again. Now's the time to tell them they suck and you're leaving them!

I like it. I go for at least 500 points on any game before I decide to trade the game in for money. Some achievements make you do these dumb scavenger hunts before you can get them. Assassin's Creed II for example, in order to get 1000 points for this game you have to collect all 100 feathers for the "In memory of Petuccio" achievement and only then will you be given the Auditori cape to wear in each city for the last achievement. I have 960 points on AC2 and those last two achievements are keeping me from getting a perfect score.

I don't care much for achievements apart from the times when they unlock something in-game. New weapons, secret levels, and so on. Although I did all I could to get the trophies in Brutal Legend, but that was after the 3rd playthrough when I couldn't squeeze much more out of the game than achievements.

It's a good way to add goals to video games so that I don't feel like I';m wasting my time.

I love unusual ones like Beat The Rush on L4D (4 minutes using Melee only in survival) and Level a Charge (not that I have it yet), but things like "kill 100 people" I just find boring. I do go after the ones which are entertaining though, except on TF2 as the unusual ones there I find boring.

I think they are nice little additions. I dont love collecting them, but, when I get one as I play through always makes me feel accomplished

I love achievements. I've always been a hoarder, usually having the maximum amount of healing items by the time I get to the final boss of a game. Achievements, badges, trophies... these may be a step down from useful items but they're fun as hell to collect nonetheless.

Gamerscore is something that I go for in a game after I have done everything else it has to offer. Other than online achievements I will go for them when the game is getting boring or I've done everything. CoD4 was one of those games. I played the campaign so many times and the multiplayer was annoying me so I thought to myself "Why not give the veteran a go and see how many of the achievements can I get" They kept me playing the game even though I would have normaly have quit because of losing so many times but I did eventualy get them all. After that I stopped playing CoD4 probably because I had nothing eles to aim for in that game.

I like getting achievements/trophies, but I wouldn't put myself out to get some of the ridiculously difficult ones, or go for 100% completion.

A bit of an achievement whore here, I despise the fact that it is increasingly common nowadays for over 50% of achievements to be based online. I don't have Live so won't get those achievements until I leave uni and can buy an xbox with subscription (I have been successfully scabbing off of a housemate for over two years!)

I find that getting them is fun.But I won´t go out of my way to get some super hard achievement. It just has no point, trying to get some achievement while you could be enjoying the game.

I go after the hidden items in most games because i feel that's the real big challenge..and an achievement i feel a sense of accomplishment when i get it

I voted Yes but it's not a 100% yes.
In Single Player I use it as a measure of how far I am into the game and what I've got left to do. In Fallout 3 I use it to see which quests I still have to do, in Dragon Age I use it to see which choices I've got to make (I must confess I do cheat most of those achievements where I make the choice I don't have, get the achievement and then load backwards to do the choice I want) as well as what skills I do/don't use.
In Multiplayer I'm not really that bothered, mainly because I don't play multiplayer often :p

Avidly collect achievements (when I can).

If it's in a MMO environment, and doesn't require a raiding situation, I'm all over them. It's hard for me to get raiding/group achievements in MMOs usually, however, since I work nights. =/ Most people are either asleep or working/at school when I have playing time.

But yeah, I'm big ol' achievement ho.
