There are children with phones that allow them to send or recieve compromising texts, and they get away with it, because many adults do not fully understand technology, and so assume children don't either, giving technologically intelligent children free reign over phones. It is 'Childs Play' to be able to turn off security functions on laptops, browsers and computers, and phone security is basically non-existant
This is not a generalisation, I had to do a lot of work on this for my IT course.
You have to bear in mind, that with the average Escapist age being around 17/18, we are old enough to understand risks and such. However, I have seen 10 year olds with iPhones, and even if they can use the technology they hold, they will not understand how it can put them at risk. I think a person of that age should not be given control over their device, for the same reason you don't give a gun to a 12 year old

I'm pretty sure that this has nothing to do with driving, it's basically a parental control for parents? Unless I'm incorrect and please link me if so, none of you actually read the article and have no idea what your voting on. Kudos for being informed!

Now on the topic of course the technology should be developed if parents don't want their kids sending nudes on the phone plan that they pay for then they should have the ability. As for apple patenting it that's a whole new argument which I wouldn't touch with a10 ft stick on this forums, I've heard enough ranting from writers (even though I still love you guys) and commenter who clearly have no clue about patient law.

No. I do instead think people should develop the common sense and decency not to text in cinemas and while driving.

You should have the option to stop the phone receiving them, anti-harassment/molexting device, but not a cap on sending.

All they need to do is create a black box that nullifies all incoming phone signals and place one behind every car seat/bar/till area/movie screen.

Bingo. And there's no damn need for Apple to get involved.

No one should, but idiots do.

I'd be in favour of them locking texting whilst driving in cars. At movies no, the chances of you causing an accident in a cinema due to texting are pretty slim.

I'm also in favour of innovations such as the automatic speed reduction systems being tested in Australia. They stop (actually stop) people speeding. It can be overridden for a few seconds (to allow for things like over taking) but other than that if the limit is 50, you're not doing more than 50.

Absolutely. At this point, I don't care about people crying about their "rights" because texting while driving is illegal, stupid, and dangerous and people still do it. If they can't control themselves, someone has to. I'm not so sure about the movies, though, because there's a difference in protecting people from danger and protecting people from rude movie-goers.

Also, how would you plan to stop people from doing this? If they could find a way, I would love it.
It's illegal to drive while drunk, but you don't see a breath analyzer in every car, that would be stupid.
In Finland if you are a driver who drivers children on their school Trips/travels/Whatever. You car needs to have breathing analyzer installed. Tho one stupid flaw here, it is set to 0.2 as a limit, it should be 0...

I don't support ideas of some sort of SYSTEM controlling people communication (Force shutting phones etc...) Is against basic human right. Ofc there are laws and there is stupid people.

But like one wise man once said: -"To reach lasting world peace, all rights of opinion and freedom must to sacrificed. Choose wisely and bare the consequences of your actions."

Excuse the bad translation...

P.S. How about removing the driving license or the phone of people who get caught driving while using their phones?. And get someone to kick the people of theather who break the rules.

what next? an App that will censor any picture that look "sexy"?

edit- they totally should do it, just so we can see it fail the very next day.
Haha that is so true, I would love to see that.

In fact, go ahead Apple. Try and censor everything. I shall enjoy watching your attempts go badly wrong :)

Big budget DRMs anyone?
If apple starts something like that I wont be supporting, well I don't support them anyway, they are just overpriced fashion products.

Show me a phone that can tell when you're at the movies or in the car and I'll show you an Orwellian future with no hope of redemption.

Nah, I kid. But seriously, how would it ever know? Even if you're moving at high speeds that a GPS could recognize, maybe you're just riding! At the moment it's technologically impossible to do this, but if it WAS possible without fear of your privacy being violated (this is the big problem I think) then I'd say do it.

Hey they could even take it further, and implement anti-speaking technology, and then anti-widgets technology along with anti-internet technology. Eventually they could reach a point of selling bricks as phones, iBrick would be awesome new gadget...
And sell millions.

It's set to .02 because many types cold medicine and other things can set it off, a .02 leeway is pretty safe though.

Yeesh, that sounds like a logistical nightmare.

p.s. I hope those people who voted "No, it's my phone and I should be able to text whenever I want" are just doing that on principle and not ACTUALLY texting whilst they drive...

No. People should be able to text whatever they want. They can't filter what people say to each other... Plus, on the subject of Apple, why don't they learn to make something that actually works before trying to filter it. Next time I see one of those Mac fanboys that say Apple stuff is the best and it never has problems, I'm going to ask them to explain why my iPod Touch crashes more than all 3 of my [Windows] computers combined.

Well if the law saids you shouldn't be doing this then i dont see the harm in adding these features in. To many drivers text or are on they're cells on the road.

I'm really confused why this is so off topic. The article was about "Sexting" not "texting while driving." I doubt Apple could do anytning about the driving thing. As for sexting, if they can develop the technology, let them. There is nothing illegal about it. It's not like it will be implemented with every phone, just for parents who don't want there kids going crazy. Technology already exists to restrict Internet/Computer use/TV for kids. What's the big deal if texting filters got added. No ones rights will be violated. If you don't want to be "oppressed" by your parents who implemented it... BUY YOUR OWN PHONE. Simple as that. If they get you a phone, they can get you whatever phone they feel like getting you and if that is your only way to get a phone, feel happy that you at least get one.

I know, I tried to point that out earlier but people just want to ***** and not read what they are actually doing.
